Assistant Plant Manager
Schedule: Monday-Friday, plus weekends as needed - 1st Shift (5:00 AM - ~3:30 PM)


Position Summary

The Assistant Plant Manager (Processing) is responsible for overseeing daily production operations within raw meat processing, including takedown and smokehouse functions in a ready-to-eat manufacturing environment. This role ensures production schedules are executed efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, quality, and operational performance.

This position provides leadership to production supervisors and teams, driving accountability through KPIs, continuous improvement initiatives, and cross-functional collaboration. The role partners closely with Scheduling, Packaging, Maintenance, Sanitation, Purchasing, and FSQA to ensure production goals are consistently achieved.

Responsibilities

-Production Operations
Oversee daily operations across raw processing, takedown, and smokehouse departments
Ensure production schedules are completed on time and meet company standards
Partner with Scheduling to improve production flow and efficiency
Monitor throughput and resolve operational challenges

-Leadership & Team Development
Supervise production supervisors overseeing 30+ employees
Coach, train, and develop supervisors and team members
Drive accountability for performance, productivity, and workplace standards
Establish clear expectations for quality and operational execution

-Performance Management
Track and manage KPIs including yield, efficiency, and schedule attainment
Analyze production data to identify improvement opportunities
Lead regular production meetings to review performance and priorities

-Quality & Food Safety
Ensure compliance with all food safety, regulatory, and quality standards
Maintain adherence to ready-to-eat processing requirements
Partner with QA and Sanitation teams to ensure a clean, compliant environment

-Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with Maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and uptime
Communicate with Purchasing on raw material issues
Coordinate with Sanitation on production readiness
Align with second shift leadership to ensure operational continuity

-Operational Oversight
Monitor inventory usage and optimize raw material utilization
Ensure production meets product specifications and standards
Support continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and reduce waste




-Requirements
3-7 years of experience in food manufacturing or industrial production
Prior leadership experience supervising production teams
Strong knowledge of food safety and quality standards (RTE environment preferred)
Ability to analyze production data and drive process improvements
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

-Preferences
Experience in meat or protein processing
Experience with yield management and production efficiency metrics
Experience leading supervisors in a multi-shift environment
