Position Summary
The University of Charleston School of Business seeks candidates for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Accounting position to begin in August 2026. This faculty member will serve as the Accounting Program Director, preparing graduates to sit for the CPA and other professional exams and for careers in public accounting, industry, and government.
The University is teaching-focused and student-centered. The School of Business serves over 300 business students with undergraduate majors in Accounting, Business Analytics, Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Financial Planning, Management, Marketing, Professional Selling, Sport Business, Sport Analytics, and Sport Media. The students in the School of Business come from diverse backgrounds and are primarily full-time and residential. Our school is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Business Schools & Programs.
The position reports to the Dean of the School of Business.
Essential Responsibilities
Position responsibilities include the following:
• Teaching primarily in-seat financial accounting courses, including Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Accounting, and Auditing. To meet the needs of the school, hybrid or online courses may be part of the load. • Program director duties, including program and course design development and assessment, mentoring through student organizations, and networking with community professionals. • Academic advising of students. • Scholarly activity consistent with expectations of hiring and promotion of faculty at an ACBSP-accredited school. • University service in the form of committee membership and participation in shared institutional governance. • Other faculty duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The position requires a masters degree and a CPA or 18 graduate hours in accounting. Energy, enthusiasm, and excellence in teaching are preferred, with a preference for candidates with pertinent experience in developing and teaching courses in multiple modalities, in-seat, hybrid, or online. A master or doctorate with academic expertise in financial accounting courses is also required. Significant professional experience as a financial accountant or auditor is preferred, and a CPA is highly desirable. A record of applied scholarship is also required. Relevant experience in utilizing appropriate technology in course development and delivery is also preferred. Ability to engage students in their professional and career preparation is essential. Willingness to actively engage in service to the university, school, and community is also required.
