Other Conditions ----------------

This is a 9-month position that could require an 11-month appointment if appointed as the EdD Director. General or Special funds, contingent upon position clearance, department needs, and fund availability. Appointment is expected to begin August 2026. About the Position -------------------

The Department of Educational Administration (EDEA) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor. This position serves as the lead for the Doctorate in Education in Professional Educational Practice (EdD) degree program.

Areas of Research and Expertise -------------------------------

Areas of research and expertise might include culturally sustaining program development, historically informed policy analysis and evaluation, and broad methodological expertise.

This position is open to scholars with a range of leadership topics and methodological approaches. A demonstrated commitment to advancing equal policy implementation in research, teaching, and advising is required. At a critical time for education, we seek a faculty member who can meet challenges with clarity, integrity, and imagination.

Duties and Responsibilities ---------------------------

  • Coordinate the College of Education's EdD program focusing on developing leaders in professional practice (e.g., recruit and oversee cohort admissions, coordinate student dissertation committees, develop curriculum, and assignment of affiliate faculty and adjunct faculty to courses in the EdD program).
  • Advise students in the EdD program and other graduate programs as needed.
  • Maintain an active program of research/scholarly activity and publications in area of specialization.
  • Teach graduate courses in educational leadership via on campus and/or a variety of distance delivery modes.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, public schools, and professional community.
  • Participate in program review, program assessment, and accreditation activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications ---------------------

  • Doctorate in K-12 or higher education leadership and administration or closely related field from an accredited institution; will consider ABD if completed by date of hire.
  • Experience in coordinating educational programs.
  • Demonstrated scholarly achievement, evidenced by a track record of conducting research and publishing scholarly materials, commensurate with the academic rank of Assistant Professor.
  • Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring at the graduate level in K-12/higher educational leadership and administration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equal policy implementation and experience working with culturally and linguistically distinct populations.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership experience in higher education or K-12 educational settings.
  • Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.

Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications -----------------------------------------

In addition to the Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications, a minimum of four (4) years of full-time college or university teaching at a rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent.

  • Established publication record in K-12 and/or higher education educational leadership and administration.
  • Evidence of teaching success.

Desirable Qualifications -------------------------

  • History of work with and in various education systems in Hawaii (e.g., University of Hawaii, Hawaii Department of Education, Kamehameha Schools, etc.).
  • Knowledge of data tracking systems and systematic evaluation and reporting.
  • Broad and continuous scholarly research activity in the categories of educational leadership, policy and politics, indigenous education, social justice theory, and educational programming and evaluation.
  • Successful grant writing in areas related to the position.
  • Strong expertise in educational program design and implementation, professional development, curricular frameworks, instructional strategies, classroom management techniques, and other approaches to strengthen educator professional development and practice.
  • Demonstrated professional experiences in strategies and practices to support the development of educational leaders, generating and operationalizing strategic partnerships, as well as strategic and tactical planning knowledge to ensure robust program sustainability.
  • Strong collegial communication, and collaborative teamwork skills.
