Daughters of Charity in Emmitsburg Maryland is seeking a full-time Assistant Nursing Manager.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position assists the Director of Nursing with directing the operations of the Nursing Services department. Nurse Function - assist in the planning and delivery of nursing care to the Sisters of St. Joseph House following standards and practices grounded on the philosophy of the Daughters of Charity. Will also: oversee care provided by the Nursing Assistants, administer medications and treatments as ordered by physician, while meeting basic standards of care/licensure, and advocate for the Sister's well being.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the provision of the individualized, goal directed, nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in collaboration with the Director of Nursing/designee and other members of the patient care team.
- Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with each Sister resident.
- Assist in determining current and potential needs and/or problems of the Sister residents to create a plan of care for each Sister based on her individual needs.
- Report pertinent data and observations through an established system of communication.
- Follow procedures for charting to ensure the maintenance of accurate and complete patient records.
- Verbal report of the status of each Sister resident to appropriate person(s).
- Implement nursing actions according to established plan of care.
- Participates in change of shift report.
- Receive and carry out patient care nursing interventions following established protocol/procedures.
- Execute orders for specific procedures and treatments as prescribed. Administer medication/perform medical treatments, as warranted.
- Assist with orientation, instructions/training, and supervision of staff, as directed by the Director of Nursing/designee.
- Cooperate with other staff to achieve departmental objectives to maintain good morale and teamwork, and collaborates with other team leaders.
- Assist to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment for Sister residents and staff.
- Report defective equipment or unsafe conditions to appropriate person(s).
- Maintain professional development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
- Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
- Ability to regularly attend work as scheduled.
- Maintain professional discretion, strict confidentiality, and prudent speech concerning all aspects of position.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor.
- Participate in proactive team efforts/committees to achieve departmental and community goals. Perform leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill. Complete annual in-service requirements. Maintain infection control standards. Assist in evaluations. Assists with monitoring and adjusting the schedule for adequate coverage.
- Communicates employee-related policies and procedures to staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be physically able to efficiently perform the duties of the position, which may involve the following: standing and walking greater part of the days; sitting throughout the day; use of hands to finger, handle or feel; reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling; talking, hearing; lifting/maneuvering a patient weighing no less than 80 pounds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing with a Degree. Must hold a current license with the Maryland State Board of Nursing or a license from a compact state.
- At least one year in a nursing facility or assisted living community with relevant supervisory and/or management experience required.
- Must have strong, demonstrated leadership skills that drive a positive work culture.
- Must possess skills and knowledge in the theories and strategies of nursing and management.
- Must be able to work cooperatively and communicate effectively. Must demonstrate strong organizational skills that encourages strong collaboration and teamwork. Must use tact and good judgment in dealing with varying situations.
- Must maintain a professional approach with confidentiality.
- Must know how to care for and use equipment relative to patient care and be alert to hazards.

Hourly rate is $41.50 for LPN and $46.50 for RN.
