Reporting to the Head Coach, the Second Assistant Men's Basketball Coach supports all functions related to Winthrop's NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball program.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- At least three years of basketball coaching experience at the high school, professional or collegiate level.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- NCAA Division I coaching/playing experience.
- Five years of experience working with professional or intercollegiate men's basketball.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary
- Working knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations and the ability to apply them consistently.
- In-depth knowledge of basketball techniques and offensive and defensive strategies.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to train/mentor student-athletes one-to-one and in groups.
- Ability to accept and carry out assigned program responsibilities.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff and the community.
- Demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes and their academic and athletic success.
- Sufficient technical skills to master software required to perform job functions.
- Ability to pass the NCAA recruiting test.
- Ability and willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
Job Summary
- Teaches fundamentals, skill development and position techniques.
- Analyzes and breaks down film and scouting reports of student-athletes and opponents.
- Assists with game strategy and practice planning and coordination.
- Identifies and recruits student-athletes through film and travel.
- Ensures compliance with NCAA, Big South and university rules and regulations.
- Monitors the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
- Assists with scheduling and activities to promote the program, including fundraising and public relations events.
Travel/Overtime Requirements Ability to travel and work nights, weekends and holidays, as necessary. Telecommuting
Employees are not eligible for telecommuting/remote work during their 12-month probationary period. After that time, certain positions may be eligible for telecommuting/remote work at the discretion of the supervisor and in accordance with Winthrop policies.
