ApplyDescriptionJob SummaryThe Athletics Coach fulfills the mission of St. Joseph Catholic School by developing, collaborating, and administering the program in a way that adequately prepares the student-athletes for interscholastic competition and beyond. The Athletics Coach plans and runs practices, communicates effectively with parents and staff, and fosters relationships beyond just the Varsity, such as with the Junior High, who are the next generation of SJCS athletes. The regular season occurs during the school year in accordance with the TAPPS Calendar. The off-season occurs in the months before and after the regular season. The spring and summer are used for summer camps / sport-specific instruction (SSIs). This is a stipend position. Open teaching fields can be linked for the right candidates. Stipend-only positions are not benefits-eligible. We are a TAPPS member school.Ministerial Character Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin are canonically obedient to the Bishop and assist him in fulfilling his ministry and canonical obligations. Pastors, presidents, and principals serve as leaders of the schools to make Christs mission present and enduring in the schools. In order to fulfill Christs mission, the school leaders employ suitable, chosen collaborators, sharing with them Christs mission and entrusting to them various responsibilities.Positions employed in this School help extend the ministry of the School leaders in particular ways as outlined in the job description. The employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the School leaders in the performance of their ministry and, therefore, engages in ministry for the Church.Essential DutiesSupports and upholds the philosophy and the mission of the Catholic ChurchActs as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic ChurchSupports and adheres to the Code of Conduct, and policies and procedures, of St. Joseph Catholic School and the Diocese of AustinMaintains confidentiality regarding school mattersModels professional conduct and sensible sportsmanship, while instilling these characteristics within team membersConducts practice sessions and games according to local diocesan policy and league regulationsSchedules practices and games in consultation with the Athletic DirectorVerifies student eligibility to practice and participate by proper completion of TAPPS Management System (TMS) ProfilesMonitors the physical fitness and readiness of participants, and reports injuries to parents and school officials in a timely and appropriate mannerContinually monitors and supervises all team members at home and on the roadTeaches essential safety skills and strategies to student-athletesCollaborates with Athletic Trainer and Strength & Conditioning Coach to facilitate rehab of injured athletes and return-to-play protocolFollows school transportation rules and proceduresAttends all required staff events and fosters relationships outside of the court or fieldEmphasize the importance of prayer before and after all practices, games, & contestsModels professional dress for all games & contestsPursues continuing education and self-improvement as a coachRequirementsImportant Job Functions:Able to instruct athletes about proper strategy, skills, and rules of the sportAble to motivate student-athletes to perform optimally as individuals and as members of a teamUses approved, corrective, and positive discipline procedures in dealing with inappropriate student conductCollaborates with school personnel to enhance the work environment and support academic programmingConferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely mannerMinimum Qualifications:HS Diploma or GED (preferably a Bachelor's degree)Current CPR / First Aid certificationEthics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) compliant2-3 years coaching experience (preferably at the JH or HS level)Training:Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry upon acceptance of employment offer, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
