The Assistant High School Principal serves as an instructional leader and administrator who supports the Principal in creating and maintaining a safe, positive, and academically rigorous learning environment. This position assists with the daily operation of the high school, including student discipline, staff supervision, curriculum implementation, school improvement initiatives, and community engagement. The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with faculty, students, parents, and district leadership to ensure student success and compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership

  • Support the implementation of the school's instructional program and academic goals.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating teaching effectiveness and student achievement.
  • Collaborate with teachers and instructional staff to improve instructional practices.
  • Participate in curriculum planning, assessment analysis, and school improvement efforts.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

School Operations and Management

  • Assist with the daily administration and operation of the school.
  • Support the development and implementation of school policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate school activities, programs, schedules, and events.
  • Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, safety plans, and crisis response procedures.

Student Services and Discipline

  • Administer student discipline in accordance with district policies and the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Foster a positive school climate that promotes student engagement and responsibility.
  • Work with counselors, teachers, and families to support student attendance, behavior, and academic success.
  • Address student concerns and resolve conflicts effectively and professionally.
  • Monitor and implement intervention programs to support student achievement and well-being.

Staff Supervision and Support

  • Assist with the supervision and evaluation of certified and classified staff.
  • Support teacher recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and retention efforts.
  • Facilitate professional development activities and staff training.
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration among faculty and staff.

Family and Community Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with parents, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Participate in parent conferences, school events, and community meetings.
  • Communicate school goals, expectations, and achievements to stakeholders.
  • Support partnerships that enhance educational opportunities for students.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or district administration.
  • Serve as acting principal in the absence of the Principal when designated.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Certification

  • Valid state certification/licensure in Educational Leadership, School Administration, or equivalent administrative credential required.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience required.
  • Prior leadership or administrative experience preferred.
  • Experience at the secondary school level preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of educational leadership principles, curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and use information to improve student outcomes.
  • Knowledge of student discipline practices and school safety procedures.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and student information systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting.
  • Ability to travel between school sites and district locations as needed.
  • Ability to respond appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations.
