Position Title: Assistant Principal FLSA Status: Exempt

Terms of Employment: 205-220 days
Evaluation Period:
- Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per BCS Performance and Assessment Procedures.
- Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1.

- Establish a culture of Quality Continuous Improvement among the professional staff within the district
- Continuously evaluate curriculum and make changes that best benefit Blackford County Schools students

Minimum Requirements: The following are the qualifications and minimum requirements necessary for a person to perform this job.
- Master's Degree
- Extensive knowledge of appropriate grade-level curriculum and standards
- Extensive knowledge of teacher evaluation
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Knowledge of school law
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
Essential Functions of the Position: The following functions have been determined by Blackford County Schools to be essential to the successful performance of this position.
- Assist principal with the interpretation, enforcement and development regulations that are in agreement with Board policies, the school handbook and state and federal law.
- Promote staff professional growth, cooperation and self-development.
- Supervise and evaluate staff performance.
- Keep abreast of developments in school curriculum and instruction and provide leadership in determining the appropriateness of incorporating recent developments/trends into the school's educational program.
- Provide leadership for the planning, development and implementation of the school's curriculum.
- Assist principal in the supervision of all ticket sales and fund-raising events at the school and assume responsibility for the proper handling of funds.
- See that facilities are operated effectively and efficiently and see that applicable health and safety standards are met.
- Foster positive citizen-staff-student relations and effective communication and citizen participation in the schools by maintaining positive and/or improving human relations and rapport.
- Foster good school-community relations by keeping the community aware and responsive to activities by administering a quality informational program.
- Assist principal with the planning, organization and supervision of recognition programs for school activities.
- Provide educational and administrative leadership in making and carrying out decisions for the building.
- Anticipate problems and initiate solutions to problems.
- Be cognizant of student and staff members' rights.
- Coordinate student personnel services including the maintenance of discipline, the monitoring of attendance, the preparation of handbooks, the supervision of student scheduling, the supervision of school health services, providing assistance in guidance and counseling activities and collaborating with others in the modification of student behavior, including non-school service agencies.
- Provide leadership in student management, including in the areas of student attendance, discipline and lunchroom supervision.
- Inform and consult with the building principal regularly on the overall operation of the school.
Secondary Functions of the Position: The following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined by Blackford County Schools to be marginal to the successful performance of this position.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or as directed by the Building Principal or Superintendent.
