    Purpose

    The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This position assists with inventory management, merchandising, employee supervision, customer service, and operational execution to ensure the department achieves sales, profitability, and service goals. The Assistant Grocery Manager serves as a department leader and assumes responsibility for department operations in the absence of the Grocery Manager.

    Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development

    • Assist in leading, coaching, and developing Grocery Department employees.
    • Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members.
    • Provide daily direction, coaching, and feedback to department employees.
    • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and customer service excellence.
    • Assist with scheduling and labor management to meet operational needs.

    Department Operations

    • Support daily Grocery Department operations to ensure efficiency and productivity.
    • Assist in coordinating stocking, replenishment, rotation, and merchandising activities.
    • Monitor department conditions to ensure cleanliness, organization, and readiness for business.
    • Ensure products are properly stocked, faced, and displayed according to company standards.
    • Serve as acting department leader when the Grocery Manager is absent.

    Customer Service

    • Provide exceptional customer service and promote a customer-focused culture.
    • Assist customers with product inquiries and special requests.
    • Resolve customer concerns and issues promptly and professionally.
    • Ensure employees deliver friendly, courteous, and efficient service.

    Merchandising & Sales

    • Assist in executing promotional programs, seasonal displays, and merchandising initiatives.
    • Maintain attractive, fully stocked, and properly signed sales displays.
    • Monitor product movement and support adjustments to merchandising plans based on sales trends.
    • Identify opportunities to improve sales and customer engagement.

    Inventory Management & Shrink Control

    • Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory management, and replenishment activities.
    • Monitor inventory levels to maintain in-stock conditions.
    • Ensure proper product rotation and freshness standards are maintained.
    • Support shrink reduction efforts through inventory controls and proper product handling.
    • Assist with inventory counts and discrepancy investigations.

    Financial Performance

    • Support department sales, labor, and profitability objectives.
    • Monitor productivity and operating performance.
    • Assist in controlling labor expenses and reducing waste.
    • Support implementation of action plans to improve department results.

    Safety & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and operational procedures.
    • Maintain a safe environment for customers and employees.
    • Identify and address safety concerns promptly.
    • Support loss prevention and asset protection initiatives.
