    Position Purpose

    The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in leading the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This position assists in driving sales, maintaining merchandising standards, managing inventory, controlling expenses, and delivering exceptional customer service. The Assistant Grocery Manager helps develop associates, maintain operational excellence, and ensure department goals are achieved while providing leadership in the Grocery Manager''s absence.

    Key Responsibilities Department Operations

    • Assist in overseeing the daily operations of the Grocery Department.
    • Ensure shelves, displays, and promotional areas are stocked, faced, and merchandised according to company standards.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and customer-ready department at all times.
    • Support execution of company programs, seasonal events, and merchandising initiatives.
    • Monitor department conditions and address operational opportunities promptly.
    • Serve as Manager-on-Duty when assigned.

    Inventory Management & Merchandising

    • Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, and inventory management activities.
    • Monitor inventory levels to support sales while minimizing out-of-stocks and overstock conditions.
    • Ensure proper product rotation using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) procedures.
    • Verify pricing accuracy, promotional signage, and display compliance.
    • Assist with physical inventories, cycle counts, and shrink-control initiatives.
    • Support execution of merchandising plans that maximize sales and customer engagement.

    Sales & Financial Performance

    • Assist in achieving department sales, profit, and productivity goals.
    • Monitor department performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Support labor management efforts through efficient scheduling and workload planning.
    • Help control expenses and reduce shrink through operational best practices.
    • Participate in implementing action plans designed to improve department performance.

    Customer Service

    • Promote and model exceptional customer service.
    • Respond to customer questions, concerns, and special requests in a timely and professional manner.
    • Ensure associates provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service.
    • Resolve customer issues while maintaining positive customer relationships.
    • Support programs and initiatives that enhance the overall customer experience.

    Leadership & Associate Development

    • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training associates.
    • Provide coaching and ongoing performance feedback.
    • Promote teamwork, accountability, and associate engagement.
    • Assist with scheduling and daily work assignments.
    • Support succession planning and the development of future department leaders.
    • Lead department operations in the Grocery Manager''s absence.

    Safety & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Promote safe work practices and proper equipment operation.
    • Conduct routine inspections to identify and correct safety concerns.
    • Support loss prevention and shrink reduction initiatives.
    • Maintain sanitation, cleanliness, and workplace safety standards throughout the department.
