Golf Course Maintenance Support

Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to provide support and assist the Golf Course Superintendent in the efficient and effective operation of the golf maintenance program which includes: golf cart fleet, golf course greens/tees, practice areas, ranges, irrigation systems, clubhouse grounds and landscaping, on-course restroom facilities, wooded areas, unused acreage and maintenance vehicles and equipment. Assists in the planning of all maintenance and project work, applying agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve maintenance standards and long-range goals. Diagnoses deficiencies relative to soil disease, desiccation, winter kill, erosion and impact or error in maintaining a complex mix of soil and plant needs for greens, fairways, roughs, trees, shrubs, foliage, ground covers and ornamentals. Determines proper application of grass seed and/or sprigs, plant nutritional products, plant control products, soil and sand mixtures sufficient to maintain course within regulatory and industry standards. Assists in budgeting for equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain golf course properties. Exercises cost control measures designed to ensure operating and capital expenses in line with approved budgets. Provides expert advice on renovations, improvements, minor and major construction for rebuilding or construction of greens, bunkers and tees, additional subterranean irrigation lines, sprinkler heads and additional nursery yardage. Has direct day-to-day line authority over personnel and work operations. Plans and organizes in-service training programs to include safety and the proper methods and uses of motorized turf equipment and application of plant control products.
