The School District of West Allis-West Milwaukee seeks to hire a dedicated and passionate Assistant coach to lead Girls Volleyball at Hale High School for the 26-27 season. The desired candidate will have demonstrated coaching experience with a philosophy that fosters a positive team culture, a mindset of student athlete development, an understanding of the skills, strategies and leadership required to build an inclusive and competitive program that provides fun and meaningful experiences for all involved.
Coaching Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Operations:
Develop and implement a comprehensive training program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Organize and lead effective practice sessions and game strategies.
Execute age- and ability-appropriate workouts/training programs.
Coordinate the distribution, collection, storage of athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies (during the season and at its conclusion), and for the collection of fees for lost equipment and uniforms by student-athletes
Supervise student-athletes at all times during school-sponsored activities (at practice, at games, during travel, including when not participating in a game, in locker rooms, etc) to ensure the safety and well-being of student athletes.
Coordinate the security of all facilities used by the team and coaching staff
Assist the athletic director/department in the purchasing of equipment, supplies and uniforms as approved and coordinated with the athletic director
Follow established facility and safety procedures, and ensure that environmental considerations, injury prevention and response along with appropriate psychological care for injuries are being addressed with the assistance of the athletic trainer.
Collaborate with the athletic director on game-day logistics, including transportation, equipment and player readiness.
Administration:
In collaboration with the athletic director, maintain an accurate record of team performance, player eligibility and compliance with Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) regulations.
Coordinate with the athletic director to schedule non conference contests, tournaments, practices, open gym and other facility usage related to team activities.
Assign duties and responsibilities to assistant coaches with the approval of the athletic department
Oversee the program fundraising, ensuring district policies are met with handling monies
Track expenditures and manage program fundraising, ensuring that the program stays within budget and adheres to all cash handling and fundraising policies.
Organize team outreach programs and participation in community events.
Complete WIAA Rules Test and Video prior to the season starting, and demonstrate proficiency regarding WIAA, Conference, and NFHS rules respective to their sport.
Submit the following items to the athletic director: completed roster form after the third practice/tryout and complete awards, season records, inventory forms and lost school-issued items program-wide
Ensure the proper completion of physical examinations and all registration forms before a student-athlete participates
Ensure all student-athletes are taking district-provided transportation or have signed alternative transportation forms on file. Ensure coaches have transportation approvals on file before transporting students.
Complete all end-of-season tasks and attend meetings with the WIAA and conference
Program Leadership:
Complete any required coaches' training
Must be CPR/AED/First Aid certified or obtain it prior to coaching and share proof of certification with the athletic department
Foster a positive, inclusive, fun, and competitive environment and culture.
Serve as a mentor and role model for student athletes, promoting self-discipline, integrity and hard work.
Demonstrate and model respect for your teammates, school, the game, competitors, game officials, and the community.
Provide positive and corrective feedback to athletes during practices and games.
Encourage and support academic excellence and personal growth among student athletes
Building Relationships:
Create and maintain an atmosphere where student-athletes feel comfortable, welcomed and supported
Participate in special activities to include parents' night, awards banquets, and pep assemblies
Assist student-athletes regarding athletic scholarships and postgraduate opportunities
Establish strong connections with student-athletes to support their development on and off the field/court
Engage with parents, faculty, and community members to promote athletic programs
Develop partnerships with local organizations, youth programs, and alumni to strengthen programs.
Communication:
Foster strong communication with student-athletes, parents, school staff, and the athletic director
Send routine communication to families on the preseason, season, and postseason items
Establish and communicate consistent expectations and roles for student athletes and families.
Create a community of open communication among coaches, families, athletes and the athletic director
Regularly participate and communicate with the booster club and its members/at its meetings
Communicate any absences of the coaching staff, including yours as the head coach, to the athletic director
Use a variety of communication platforms aligned with district policy and practice
Promote the entire Athletic Program district-wide
Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Administration.
