Job Description


The Assistant General Manager provides direct support to the General Manager in overseeing contracted hospitality operations at the Anchorage Pioneer Home, a 169-bed senior services assisted living facility. In this role, you will lead the delivery of exceptional food services, ensuring high standards of culinary excellence for our residents. The ideal candidate possesses extensive food service management knowledge and culinary experience, paired with the ability to build meaningful, daily relationships with the elders we serve. As this is a 24/7 care environment, evening, holiday, and weekend hours are required. Responsibilities


+ Assists the General Manager in directing daily culinary operations, ensuring seamless service delivery and high-quality outcomes within the facility.

+ Helps establish and implement standardized operating procedures for the kitchen, including menu compliance, sanitation schedules, and organized staff supervision.

+ Maintains proactive communication with residents and facility leadership to ensure high dining and cleanliness satisfaction, resolving service issues promptly and professionally.

+ Orchestrates the specific terms of the contract, ensuring all dietary service-level agreements are strictly met.

+ Ensures the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective services while maintaining compliance with health department regulations, food safety laws, and healthcare sanitation standards.

+ Upholds a rigorous safety and infection control program, continuously seeking to improve the quality of food production.

+ Demonstrates professional leadership in managing culinary teams, focusing on employee development, efficient scheduling, and solving complex operational challenges.

+ Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.

+ This position may be responsible for the supervision of staff in the absence of the General Manager.


Qualifications


+ Must have High School diploma or GED equivalent.

+ Minimum 2 years’ management and food service experience in a healthcare facility or similar environment.

+ Must have a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.

+ Proficient computer skills; Excel, Microsoft outlook and Microsoft Word.

+ Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements


Weather: Indoors, environmentally controlled.


Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually mild to moderate.


Description of environment: This is a cafeteria environment located on a University Campus setting.


Physical requirements: Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift. Infrequently required to sit, crouch or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs
