Summary

Leads and assists in the work of a small crew in maintaining facilities and landscaped areas of the cemetery.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and assist in the work of a small crew maintaining cemetery grounds;
  • Assist Cemetery Foreman in planning work to be done, maintain time and work records;
  • Lead and participate in locating, marking, and preparing gravesites for funeral, providing amenities, and closing gravesite;
  • Lead and participate in maintenance of cemetery grounds, and maintenance and repair of irrigation system;
  • Assist in inspecting cemetery grounds for necessary maintenance or repairs;
  • Assist in employee selection, evaluation, and disciplinary actions;
  • Supervise work crew in the absence of the Cemetery Foreman;
  • Perform related duties as directed.

Qualifications

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one to three years of experience in the maintenance of a cemetery; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Physical Exam Required

Valid Current Commercial Drivers License

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Landscape and ground maintenance practices;
  • Use of construction equipment for landscape maintenance and excavation.

Ability to:

  • Operate various pieces of grounds maintenance or construction equipment;
  • Maintain accurate records;
  • Understand maps and blueprints;
  • Communicate effectively with others;
  • Lead the work of others.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently stand and walk during the shift.
  • Occasionally bend and kneel during the shift.
  • Frequently lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Occasionally carry up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequently push and pull objects.
  • Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
  • Frequently rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing.
  • Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height.
  • Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
