Assistant Football Coach Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

The Assistant Coach will support the head coach in delivering a successful and well-rounded athletic program while fostering the development of student-athletes. Responsibilities include the following:

Philosophy and Technique Implementation • Teach and reinforce the fundamental philosophy skills and techniques as directed by the head coach. • Attend clinics and professional development sessions in alignment with school and district policies.

Discipline and Conduct • Maintain discipline among student-athletes and follow established guidelines set forth by the head coach and school and district. • Enforce discipline and ensure due process when addressing infractions, notifying the head coach promptly of any issues.

Student-Athlete Monitoring • Provide consistent attention to student-athletes academic performance and conduct. • Supervise after-school homework sessions to support academic success.

Practice and Game Operations • Attend all practices and games, offering guidance, assistance, and safeguarding participants. • Assist in facility preparation for sports events and practices, adhering to scheduled times.

Facility and Equipment Care • Oversee locker room cleanliness and ensure facilities are maintained before and after use. • Encourage respect for school property and proper care of equipment among athletes.

Athlete Supervision • Ensure athletes are in authorized areas only and adhere to appropriate schedules. • Monitor and assist with transportation arrangements as required.

Public Relations and Community Engagement • Build positive relationships with parents, officials, volunteers, and fans. • Represent the school and athletic program with professionalism and respect.

Other Duties • Carry out additional responsibilities assigned by the head coach in accordance with district policy and North Carolina Administrative Code and Statutes.

Qualifications Effective communication skills to engage with students, staff, parents, and the community. Strong organizational and interpersonal abilities. Must hold or be able to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with P and S endorsements to drive a school bus, encouraged.
