Yes County Erie Street Address 27 Masten Avenue, Room 121 City Buffalo StateNY Zip Code14240 Duties Description Duties include, but are not limited to: Perform engineering design and redesign or review of plumbing, piping, fire protection systems and heating and ventilating systems for new and rehabilitation construction projects. These projects may involve needed design changes for mechanical systems of existing facilities that can present complex problems in order to be compatible with the plans for existing building structures. Prepare mechanical specifications, mechanical estimates and studies for energy conservation for the mechanical design projects. May supervise consultant work. Perform other duties as assigned. Perform the full range of supervisory duties. Operational Needs: Travel may be required (approximately 20%). Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job. Notes: There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. Salary Adjustments for Positions at the Assistant level (not trainee) in Buffalo: Geographic pay differential added to hiring salary $7,000. The Office of the General Services (OGS) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency's mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OGS Design and Construction (D&C) will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee's duties and work performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so. Upon approval to telecommute, OGS D&C employees may telecommute up to 4 days per pay period. Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position: Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND a qualifying bachelors degree or higher as listed below; OR proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below. Qualifying degrees: Aerospace Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architectural Engineering Technology, Building Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Engineering Technology, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees. Qualifying experience: One year of full-time experience in mechanical engineering. This title includes a traineeship opportunity, and applicants must meet one of the following: A bachelors degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology (listed above). OR Proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time engineering experience (listed above). OR Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a Grade 18 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES.
