The Department Silicon Valley Power (SVP) provides over 40 percent of Santa Clara's electricity from carbon‑free renewable resources, including wind, solar, geothermal and hydroelectric projects as well as locally captured methane gas and solar systems on city-owned property. SVP's mission is to be a service‑oriented utility that offers reliable, competitively priced services while maintaining low residential rates for all customers.The Position Assistant Electric Utility Engineer – entry‑level engineer performing electric system planning, design, construction, and maintenance programs under direct supervision. The role is part of the engineering team, assisting in establishing design standards, implementing construction projects, and may be assigned to any division within the Electric Department.Responsibilities Conduct electric system planning, design, construction, and maintenance program activities.Assist in establishing design standards and implementing construction projects.Collaborate with senior engineers and management across the Electric Department.Qualifications Education and Experience Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering accredited by ABET.Alternative: Possession of a California Engineer‑In‑Training (E.I.T.) certificate plus at least one year of experience in electrical or mechanical engineering office and/or field work, with proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and MATLAB.License/Certification Valid California Class C driver's license required at time of appointment and throughout employment.Desirable Qualifications Registration as an Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineer in California.Experience using ESRI‑based Geographic Information System (GIS).Other Requirements Must be able to perform all essential duties of the job assignment.May be required to work shifts, weekends, and odd or unusual hours, including emergency situations.Salary Range $145,678.08 – $185,797.44. Position may be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range.Veteran's Preference This position qualifies for Veteran's Preference Points.
