What We Do/Project
The Contingent Assistant Editor will provide critical post-production support for ongoing editorial operations, media management, asset tracking, and workflow execution. The primary focus of this role is ensuring efficient movement of media through the post-production pipeline, supporting editors and internal clients, and maintaining asset integrity across storage and delivery systems. Secondary responsibilities include supporting limited videography and production needs as required.
Job Responsibilities / Typical Day in the Role
Post-Production & Editorial Support (Primary Focus)
- Manage media ingest, transcoding, exports, and file deliveries.
- Support editorial workflows, including string-outs, assemblies, restores, and quality control reviews.
- Maintain and manage media assets across shared storage, cloud environments, and archive systems.
- Process client support requests related to editorial operations and media management.
- Create and deliver files in accordance with technical specifications and distribution requirements.
- Assist with color review, finishing workflows, and screening preparation.
- Monitor and maintain efficient post-production workflows to ensure deadlines are met.
- Collaborate with editors, producers, and project stakeholders to support ongoing projects.
Media Asset Management
- Organize, archive, and retrieve media assets using Avid and other asset management systems.
- Support long-term asset preservation and storage workflows, including LTO and cloud-based environments.
- Maintain detailed records and tracking of project media and deliverables.
Production & Videography Support (Secondary Focus)
- Provide videography support for internal shoots and studio productions as needed.
- Operate and maintain camera, lighting, and related production equipment.
- Assist with production logistics, equipment setup, and stage readiness.
- Support small-scale video capture assignments when requested.
Must Have Skills / Requirements
- Experience in an assistant editor or post-production support role. (3+ years)
- Strong experience with Avid Media Composer and media management workflows. (3+ years)
- Strong experience with Telestream Vantage or knowledge of post-production file formats, transcoding, quality control, and delivery requirements. (3+ years)
Nice to Have Skills / Preferred Requirements
- Entertainment marketing or broadcast experience preferred.
- Camera operation and production experience preferred but not required.
- BA/BS preferred.
Soft Skills:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
Technology Requirements:
- Strong experience with Avid Media Composer and media management workflows.
- Knowledge of post-production file formats, transcoding, quality control, and delivery requirements.
- Experience working with shared storage, archival systems, and cloud-based media environments.
- Avid Interplay or similar MAM systems
- Telestream Vantage
- DaVinci Resolve
- Adobe Premiere
- Cloud and archive storage workflows (AWS, Azure, Nexis, Aspera)
