ASSISTANT DIRECTOR-TECHNICAL-ALYS STEPHENS CENTER

To assist the Technical Director in overseeing technical production for live events across various UAB Arts departments. To assist in managing all stages of production including design budgeting preproduction on-site coordination and post-production. To take charge of decision-making In the absence of the Technical Director.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Helps the Technical Director TD to manage and train technical team and large number of part-time technical over-hires. Serves as the point of contact and representative of organization in the absence of the TD- or as appointed by the TD for artists agencies internal external rental clients as well as UAB Arts departments to review and assess technical riders to advance events shows and create plans for day of show which can include load-in hangs focus technical rehearsals strikes and venue transitions. Works alongside TD to communicate with Senior Directors in organization to determine event scope design deliverables proposed budgets and timelines by given deadlines. Gives expertise on national best practices standards and equipment usage as set by the industry.

  2. Assists with technical renovations ongoing maintenance and equipment for three facilities- Stephens Center Abroms-Engel Institute of Visual Art and ArtPlay House under the direction and guidance of the TD. Helps to monitor the amortization schedule and plan of technical equipment. Attends meetings and walk-throughs that involves directors clients and other stakeholders to speak on the subject matter of technical operations and needs. Helps TD to ensure buildings are up-to-code and staff are appropriately certified.

  3. Helps TD to ensure tech team staff are adhering to UAB policy and guidelines regarding HR financial affairs and vendors. Maintains good standing and positive relationships with technical vendors. Partners with Facilities Manager where facilities and technical systems overlap.

  4. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $45,395 - $66,400

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Theatre, Designs, Technology, Theatre Productions, Entertainment Industry, Music, or a related field
  • Three years of related experience required
  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement
  • Currently certified as OSHA 10 hour General Industry preferred
