Title Assistant Director Residence Life

Job Description:

The Assistant Director for Residence Life reports directly to the Associate Director for Residence Life with a primary focus on facilitating an engaging residential experience that is highly relational, fosters curiosity and learning, centers well-being, and supports students successfully finding their way.

The Assistant Director for Residence Life supports the residential experience by providing direct supervision and leadership to up to six (6) live-in Resident Directors (RDs) and management of a residential area that houses up to 1500 students. The Assistant Director provides leadership, planning, implementation, and assessment for various departments, essential administrative functions including but is not limited to:

• Student staff recruitment • Student leadership development • Student staff trainings • Collaborative development and implementation of the residential experience model • Department engagement events • Housing operation processes

This is a full-time, twelve-month live-in position that includes a furnished on-campus residence, including utilities, and a partial meal plan. This position serves on the administrator on-call duty rotation, which serves as a crisis response and reporting function for the entire campus. Evening and weekend availability may be required.

Required Qualifications:

• An advanced degree in Student Affairs, Education, or a related field, or a Bachelors degree with experience working in college or university housing, training, and experience in a related field equating to an advanced degree. • Demonstrated background and knowledge of working with college students in a residential setting. • Demonstrated experience with staff supervision, training, development, and evaluation. • Familiarity with university housing and/or residential life operations, student development, and/or student support services. • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of student conduct adjudicating. • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as work with peers as a member of a leadership team. • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional discretion and judgment with confidential information and materials. • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide range of audiences, including students, families, guardians, the public, and colleagues. • Record of and commitment to creating supportive environments that foster student success and retention.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience planning, implementing, and assessing large-scale processes. • Experience with the creation and administration of residential engagement experience models. • Experience supervising professional staff. • Previous experience in a live-on position at a college or university. • Experience serving in an administrative/crisis on-call rotation.
