Overview

The Assistant Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the TRIO Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) program, a federally funded program that serves first generation and low-income students to pursue post-secondary education beyond high school. This position is co-located at our partner school Marysville Pilchuck High School and Everett Community College campus.

Duties & Responsibilities

Manage UBMS Program

  • Serve as Upward Bound Math and Science liaison between the target school staff and Upward Bound programming, including participating in school meetings and events as necessary.
  • Supervise and train TRIO Specialists and assist with supervision of summer staff. Provide professional development mentoring and training activities.
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, monitor and evaluate all direct student services provided with the programs and project objectives.
  • Serve as administrator during UBMS summer academy by serving as the lead on student programming, hiring of teaching staff, coordinating field trips, camp activities, other events, student schedules, grades, and stipends.
  • Interview, recommend for hire, train, supervise and evaluate the performance of program staff.
  • Establish a timeline for annual schedule and deliver program activities, goals and objectives as specified in the grant proposals.

Grant Compliance and Budget

  • In consultation with the Director of TRiO, interpret and implement U.S. Department of Education regulations applicable to the programs and ensure internal accountability.
  • Manage a comprehensive student support services program including tracking data, monitoring student progress, activities and outcomes.
  • Coordinate orientations and professional development for new and continuing program staff to ensure compliance with program goals and objectives, as well as federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Consult and track budgetary expenditures in accordance with UBMS fiscal and program rules.
  • Attend Department of Education-approved staff development workshops.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of quarterly and annual performance reports.

Supporting Students

  • Maintain the caseload of Upward Bound students, including documentation of services to ensure that they are progressing towards Upward Bound objectives to achieve documented outcomes.
  • Serve a caseload of students.
  • Implement services that help students in clarifying education, career and life goals.
  • Develop, implement and coordinate the Peer Mentors project.
  • In accordance with federal guidelines recruit, assess, identify, and select eligible program participants.

General Duties

  • Participate in departmental and college events and activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and grant operations.
  • Availability to work occasional evening and weeknight events including overnight trips.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, social service, counseling or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Two (2) years of experience with project management and curriculum development.
  • Experience in the areas of college and career readiness programming, coaching, mentoring.
  • Experience with low-income, 1st generation college, and disadvantaged students.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the challenges and support needs of low-income and first-generation high school students.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships.
  • Knowledge and experience working with high school aged students, particularly with college admissions and advising.
  • Strong communication skills required, including written, oral, and interpersonal communication.
  • Strong technical skills including Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with digital tools and social media platforms utilized by students and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in education, social work, human services, or related field.
  • Possess and maintain current teaching credentials
  • Formal or informal supervisory experience.
  • Experience with programs related to assisting students with bridging from high school to college.

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time position, Monday through Friday, twelve (12) months per year.
  • Exempt from civil service staff member with a year-to-year contract.
  • Represented by American Federation of Teachers Exempt / Everett Local #6485.
  • Position is subject to Everett Community College policies and procedures.
  • Performance will be evaluated annually.
