Description: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SEASONAL MAINTENANCE (PARKS STEWARD PROGRAM) DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, RECREATION AND CEMETERY CITY OF WORCESTER
The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Director of Seasonal Maintenance for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cemetery. Under the direction of the Seasonal Maintenance Director, this position is responsible for supervising, planning, and implementing comprehensive park maintenance for the community. Work involves assisting the Director with supervision and leadership of seasonal park maintenance staff. Work is performed in accordance with standard park maintenance practices and procedures. This is a seasonal position, with an approximate end date of August 31, 2026.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
Oversee the activities of seasonal crew supervisors and maintenance workers to ensure assigned work details are being performed and safety protocols are followed
Perform general landscaping duties and removal of trash from assigned areas
Ability to work independently and supervise small groups of people
Complete weekly time sheets, work details, and record keeping
Operate small machine equipment (lawn mowers, trimmers, & leaf blowers)
Instruct seasonal crew supervisors and maintenance workers in proper operation of equipment
Ability to work in accordance with City of Worcester standard park/cemetery maintenance practices & procedures
Respond appropriately to situations requiring first-aid
Perform manual tasks requiring some physical exertion
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
Ability to interact with patrons and the general public in a proper and professional manner
Ability to Respond to emergency situations
Ability to perform manual tasks requiring physical exertion
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Work in a variety of weather conditions
Ability to work within wooded areas, on trails and in minimally accessible areas
Ability to work up to thirty-five (35) hours per week
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role with general maintenance or landscaping projects
One (1) year of experience in custodial work
Basic administrative abilities
Valid Driver's License
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to pass CORI/SORI
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates degree in a related field
Two (2) years of experience in general maintenance and/or landscaping
Three (3) years of experience in a supervisory role with general maintenance or landscaping projects
Experience working with hand-held radios and operating communication systems
Demonstrated basic administrative abilities to write reports and ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite programs
Certification in First Aid and CPR/AED
SALARY: $18.00 hourly, seasonal, non-benefitted
