Job Summary and Qualifications

Plans, organizes, controls, and supervises activities in hospital pharmacy according to hospital policies, standards of practice of the profession, and State and Federal laws. Recommends innovations in the practice and function of the hospital pharmacy to Administration and carries out mutually agreed upon programs. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Develops and enforces policies and procedures that promote cost-effective, appropriate, and safe medication use.
  • Develops and maintains a medical staff-approved formulary. 
  • Supervises medication storage and preparation areas throughout the facility and off-site clinics. 
  • Provides for the educational needs of health care professionals, patients, and their families. 
  • Ensures maintenance of an adequate medication supply. Ensured the integrity of the medication supply. 
  • Establishes specifications for the procurement of medications, chemicals, and biologicals. 
  • Assures adequate control and documentation of controlled substances. 
  • Ensures safe, appropriate, cost effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. 
  • Ensures strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients. 
  • Monitors and justifies all expenses exceeding budgeted targets. 
  • Ensures compliance with health system policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations. 
  • Develops and implements a strategic plan for the pharmacy that supports the mission and goals of the organization. 
  • Develops and implements pharmacy services in collaboration with associated department services. 
  • Develops, implements, and maintains a program that improves the quality of pharmacy services and supports the performance improvement plan of the organization. 
  • Participates in all committees/functions required by the organization including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. 
  • Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department. 

What qualifications you will need:

Required Education & Experience: B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy. Experience using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and pharmacy information systems required.

Preferred Education & Experience: Completion of a 1-year pharmacy practice residency, specialty residency, or fellowship, or at least 3 years of pharmacy experience is strongly preferred

Required License: Current Pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy
