Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) for a Behavioral Health/Psychiatric Department. The ideal candidate will provide clinical leadership, operational oversight, and staff supervision while ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care within a psychiatric healthcare setting.
This position requires a strong nursing leader with extensive Behavioral Health supervisory experience and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to support patient outcomes and departmental goals.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Director of Nursing in providing clinical leadership and supervision within the Behavioral Health/Psychiatric department.
- Oversee nursing staff and support daily unit operations to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans and departmental practices.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance evaluation for nursing personnel.
- Promote compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and best practices in psychiatric nursing.
- Support staff development, education, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Address operational challenges and assist with maintaining efficient workflow within the department.
Required Qualifications
Education
Minimum:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- 6 years of nursing experience, including 4 years in a supervisory or teaching role
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing
- 5 years of nursing experience, including 3 years in a supervisory or teaching role
Licensure & Certifications
- Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License
Experience
- Minimum 5–6 years of nursing experience, depending on educational background
- Minimum 3–4 years of supervisory or teaching experience, depending on educational background
- Required supervisory experience within a Psychiatric/Behavioral Health department
- Behavioral Health leadership experience is mandatory
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and staff management abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and decision-making
- Knowledge of psychiatric nursing practices and regulatory requirements
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently
