Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing – Psychiatry Department

Location: Brooklyn, New York
Duration: 13-Week Contract
Shift: Day Shift, 5x8 (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Guaranteed Hours: 37.5 Hours/Week

Compensation

Weekly Pay: $2,884.00

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) for a Behavioral Health/Psychiatric Department. The ideal candidate will provide clinical leadership, operational oversight, and staff supervision while ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care within a psychiatric healthcare setting.

This position requires a strong nursing leader with extensive Behavioral Health supervisory experience and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to support patient outcomes and departmental goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Nursing in providing clinical leadership and supervision within the Behavioral Health/Psychiatric department.
  • Oversee nursing staff and support daily unit operations to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans and departmental practices.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance evaluation for nursing personnel.
  • Promote compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and best practices in psychiatric nursing.
  • Support staff development, education, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Address operational challenges and assist with maintaining efficient workflow within the department.

Required Qualifications

Education

Minimum:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • 6 years of nursing experience, including 4 years in a supervisory or teaching role

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • 5 years of nursing experience, including 3 years in a supervisory or teaching role

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License

Experience

  • Minimum 5–6 years of nursing experience, depending on educational background
  • Minimum 3–4 years of supervisory or teaching experience, depending on educational background
  • Required supervisory experience within a Psychiatric/Behavioral Health department
  • Behavioral Health leadership experience is mandatory

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and staff management abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and decision-making
  • Knowledge of psychiatric nursing practices and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently
