Position Overview

Rider University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Housing Assignments and Administrative Services. Reporting to the Executive Director for Residential Engagement and Development, the Assistant Director of Housing Assignments and Administrative Services serves as a key leader within the Department of Residential Education and University Housing (REUH). This position is responsible for overseeing all housing assignment processes to ensure data accuracy and to maximize student satisfaction with the residential experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the management of the Cloud-based Housing Management System, StarRez. Through Cloud based computing, web services, and APIs, this position is responsible for database structures, report development, dashboards, and data analytics.
  • Coordinate system implementations, upgrades, and modifications to maintain data integrity, collaborates with various support groups to enhance system performance and builds data schematics to make housing data accessible to other campus partners through data warehouse and dashboards.
  • Manage and analyze housing occupancy data, prepare and disseminate reports, and develop and oversee marketing and promotional initiatives related to university housing services to support occupancy goals.
  • Develop and maintain student meal plan processes and oversee the creation and ongoing management of content for the REUH website.
  • Maintain strong collaborative relationships with campus partners, including the Office of Information Technologies, the Bursar's Office, the University Registrar's Office, Financial Aid, Student Accessibility and Support Services (SASS), Wellness Center, and other student affairs offices.
  • Provide day-to-day oversight of departmental budgets and financial operations, supervise professional and/or support staff, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Masters Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs, Public Administration, MBA or a related discipline. In lieu of a Master's degree, a minimum of 3-5 years of full-time residential work experience in a Higher Education setting providing direct service to students, staff, parents and university partners will be taken into consideration.
  • 2-5 years of related and progressively responsible experience in college/university housing with direct experience planning and coordinating housing assignments, room changes, and related processes.
  • Experience supervising paraprofessional staff, using database technology to support housing services, and other computer skills appropriate to the position.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and with great attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to university programs, policies and services intended to maximize student personal growth, education and development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current student affairs as well as university housing trends and issues.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and team orientation.
  • Demonstrated success working within the university community.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population and promoting a campus climate that encourages inclusion.
  • Knowledge of all federal, state, and municipal laws likely to have an effect upon areas supervised, especially safety and risk management.

  • Excellent interpersonal, cultural/intercultural, and community relations skills; excellent supervision, presentation, teaching, and training skills.
  • Strong budgeting and financial planning/analysis skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact tactfully with all levels of university students, staff, faculty, and trustees; read, analyze, and interpret documents, budgets and contracts; and respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, conduct assessment of needs and program effectiveness, and apply data and analysis skills to the formulation of proposals and solutions.
  • Proficient in use of technology to carry out electronic communication and develop both printed and electronic documents using computers and the Internet. Experience with housing database systems is required with a preference of StarRez experience. Experience with Windows or Macintosh system software, Microsoft Office (Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point), Outlook and other e-mail software, and Banner (preferred). Understanding of relational database systems and ability to oversee maintenance of technology assets.
  • Availability to work varied and flexible hours.
  • Satisfactory background and/or DMV checks required.
