The Assistant Director of Housing and Event Support supports the overall administration and operation of Housing and Residence Life and student engagement initiatives. This position plays a key leadership role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging residential community while assisting with coordination of campus events, training initiatives, marketing efforts, and student engagement opportunities. The position requires strong organizational, supervisory, and interpersonal skills and includes evening and weekend responsibilities as part of departmental operations and event facilitation.

Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Housing & Residence Life Operations

  • Assist with the overall daily operations of Housing and Residence Life.
  • Support occupancy management, housing processes, and residential community development initiatives.
  • Participate in the professional staff on-call rotation and respond to student emergencies, crisis situations, and facility concerns.
  • Assist with residence hall conduct processes and follow-up related to student behavioral concerns - as needed or assigned by the ADOS.
  • Support case management and coordinate follow-up with Hall Directors related to student welfare, conduct, and community standards
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support student success, retention, and wellbeing within the residential community.
  • Assist with summer housing operations, including summer conference planning, and coordination with the Petro Hall Director who will be responsible for facilitating the operation of summer conferencing.

Supervision & Staff Development

  • Provide direct supervision and support for Hall Directors and indirect support and supervision of the Resident Assistants (RAs).
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to student leaders and professional staff
  • Help with RA Class / RA Staff Meetings, RA development as needed
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of Residence Life student staff.
  • Help coordinate and facilitate Residence Life training sessions and professional development opportunities.
  • This includes but is not limited to Fall Staff Training, Spring Staff Training, Summer Staff Training and the budgeting needed to complete these trainings to the standard that MSUB Housing and Residence Life upholds.

Student Engagement & Event Coordination

  • Coordinate and support student engagement initiatives, campus programming, and residential events.
  • Assist with Engagement Hub events and collaborative campus-wide programming efforts.
  • Develop and implement promotional and marketing materials for events, trainings, and departmental initiatives.
  • Utilize social media, digital platforms, and other communication strategies to increase student participation and engagement.
  • Support assessment efforts related to student engagement and program effectiveness.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to housing operations, conduct, programming, and conferences.
  • Assist with departmental communications and outreach initiatives.
  • Support departmental goals, strategic initiatives, and special projects as assigned.
  • Serve on university committees and represent Housing and Residence Life at campus events and meetings as appropriate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, Communications, Business, or a related field.

Experience Required:

  • Experience working in Housing and Residence Life
  • Experience with student engagement, event planning, or student affairs.
  • Experience in event promotion, marketing, and social media management.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor both professional and student staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to respond effectively to crisis situations and student concerns.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Education Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Leadership, or a related field.

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience with student conduct processes and case management.
  • Experience coordinating summer conferences or campus housing programs.
