The Assistant Director of Financial Aid Operations provides leadership and oversight for the fiscal and loan operations functions within the Financial Aid Office at Old Dominion University. This position is responsible for supervising operational staff, managing federal and institutional fund administration, overseeing cash management and disbursement control activities, and ensuring accurate and compliant loan processing and reconciliation practices. The role serves as a key liaison with the Office of Finance on budgeting and fiscal matters, coordinates state, federal, and institutional audits, and ensures adherence to regulatory requirements and sound fiscal stewardship. The Assistant Director plays a critical role in maintaining operational efficiency, financial integrity, and compliance in support of student financial aid services and institutional goals.

Type of Recruitment Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Proficiency using Excel for data analysis including formulas (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP), if statements and pivot tables
  • Proficiency using software applications including Banner, Microsoft Office software, databases and spreadsheets; ability to learn other software relevant to duties.
  • Working knowledge of financial aid principles and regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of federal, state and institutional financial aid regulations and policy as well as university's programs, offerings, and resources.
  • Considerable knowledge of customer service standards and the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, administrators, and staff.
  • Excellen interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to safeguard the confidentiality of records.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
