The client is seeking an Assistant Director of Development for a position that requires overseeing major gift fundraising activities. The successful candidate will manage a personal portfolio of 150-175 prospects and donors, developing and executing a strategic plan for securing major gifts nationwide. This role involves close collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Chief Development Officer, deans, faculty, volunteers, and other university development colleagues. Frequent travel, as well as regular participation in evening and weekend activities, is a requirement for this position. The responsibilities include conducting discovery visits, building and maintaining a robust donor portfolio, and participating in a minimum of 24 solicitations per year. The candidate will need to gather data, assess prospects, and develop strategies to maximize giving potential. This includes ensuring consistent contact, making solicitations, and effectively stewarding relationships. The position also requires documenting activities accurately and maintaining transparency with leadership and peers. In collaboration with other development officers, the candidate will help plan and execute comprehensive fundraising campaigns and maintain strong ties with academic and unit colleagues across campus. The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor's degree and have a minimum of three years of relevant experience, with at least two years in major gift fundraising. Higher education fundraising experience is preferred. Essential skills include an understanding of charitable giving laws and practices, demonstrated financial development success, and excellent communication abilities. The candidate should possess an entrepreneurial mindset, the ability to work independently and in teams, and the capacity to navigate complex environments with diverse personalities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with university processes are also required.
