Within the Division of Student Affairs, the mission of Housing and Residence Life is to create communities in partnership with residential students that are inclusive, safe, well-maintained, and intentionally developed to facilitate their academic, personal, and professional growth.

This department is comprised of four (4) sub-units: Business Services, Facilities Operations, Administration and Assessment, and Residence Life.

The Business Services unit is responsible for managing the department's budget and financial affairs, purchasing activities, and providing general HR support for employees and the management team. Additionally, this unit provides oversight of the residence hall Security Services.

Primary Purpose of Position

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Director of Business Operations in administering and maintaining the financial and personnel operations of Housing and Residence Life and to provide continuity of divisional business functions as needed. This role performs a broad range of financial and business-related duties associated with budgeting, financial analysis, forecasting, auditing, personnel administration, and compliance within a complex, multi-funded auxiliary environment. The position works directly with Housing and Residence Life unit leaders to ensure financial reports are clear, accessible, and actionable, and provides guidance to help units understand and navigate the budgeting process throughout the fiscal year.

This role serves as a liaison to Human Resources and Employee Relations, providing consultation to supervisors on position management, recruitment processes, performance management, and employee conduct matters in accordance with university and state policies. The position works closely with the Business Analyst to ensure smooth student employment onboarding and offboarding processes and supports supervisory needs related to the overnight security team to ensure operational continuity and compliance. Additionally, the role assists with vendor relations, including financial oversight, contract monitoring, essential notifications, and vendor registration processes to support fiscal accountability and operational efficiency.

The position must develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of enterprise financial and human resource systems, including but not limited to Banner, NinerTalent, NinerWorks, Concur, and related reporting platforms, in order to effectively support budgeting, personnel transactions, compliance requirements, and divisional reporting needs.

Summary of Position Responsibilities

The Director of Business Services independently manages a broad range of business functions for Housing and Residence Life, overseeing all financial activities. The director shares in the responsibility for department-level strategic planning and is expected to provide expertise regarding the department's financial health, long-term staffing and professional development needs, cost-reduction opportunities, and collaborative business partnerships that add value to the department's programs and services.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area; or
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

At least 3 years of supervisory and relevant experience within higher education housing or auxiliary service operations.
