Here's how you will support our mission

The Assistant Director for Space Planning & Asset Management provides strategic oversight of campus interior environments to ensure spaces are functional and visually appealing. This role combines data-driven space planning with hands-on program management for interior upkeep, including furniture, flooring, and finishes. The position plays a critical role in optimizing space utilization, maintaining accurate facilities data systems, and coordinating with internal stakeholders and external agencies to support a high-quality environment for students and employees.

This position reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Operations.

The salary range for this position is $74,473 - $82,321.

This position is receiving applications until July 12, 2026 at 11:59 PM PST. The College will conduct initial interviews with selected candidates via Zoom and will conduct on-campus interviews with finalists.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic planning for campus space usage, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and optimal utilization of all facilities;

  • Track and analyze office, lab, and classroom usage, identifying trends, gaps, and opportunities for improved efficiency;

  • Maintain and continuously update room and asset data in systems such as FPMT, DirectLine, and 25Live, addressing existing data backlogs and ensuring long-term accuracy;

  • Collaborate with campus departments and stakeholders to prepare and submit required reports to the state on space utilization, including analysis of variance from established targets;

  • Oversee and manage interior upkeep programs, including:

  • Carpet Replacement Program

  • Furniture Ordering and Replacement Programs

  • Interior Painting Program;

  • Maintain a comprehensive inventory of all interior spaces and furnishings and develop proactive plans for repair and replacement cycles;

  • Anticipate future interior space needs and recommend cost-effective, scalable solutions; meet with campus stakeholders to assess furniture and interior needs; coordinate with vendors to develop solutions, obtain quotes, and support procurement processes;

  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce deferred maintenance and backlog items, particularly related to data systems and interior upgrades; reduce backlog and improve data integrity in space management systems;

  • Expand capacity and improve processes for furniture ordering and lifecycle management;

  • Read and understand construction drawings and plans in order to create square footage calculations and lay out furniture; and

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, interior design, architecture, planning, or a related field;
  • Three (3) years of experience in space planning, facilities management, or interior asset management; and
  • Five (5) years of experience managing multiple projects and programs simultaneously.

OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties of the position.

PREFERRED QULIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with space management systems (e.g., 25Live, DirectLine, FPMT) or similar platforms preferred;
  • Knowledge of state reporting requirements and energy compliance standards;
  • Experience in higher education or large institutional environments;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in data management and inventory tracking; and
  • Ability to effectively use design and visualization software such as Visio and AutoCAD and office and classroom layouts.

COMPETENCIES:

Data Analysis & Decision-Making: Interpret utilization data, facilities metrics, and asset information to identify trends, evaluate space usage, and assess operational effectiveness. Develop clear, actionable insights that inform space allocation decisions, reporting requirements, and continuous improvement efforts across campus;

Project Management: Plan, organize, and manage multiple concurrent projects and ongoing programs, including interior renewal initiatives, space data updates, and asset lifecycle activities. Establish priorities, coordinate stakeholders and vendors, and ensure timely progress and completion while balancing competing demands and institutional priorities;

Strategic Planning: Contribute to and support long-term planning for campus space utilization and interior environments by evaluating current conditions, anticipating future needs, and identifying opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness. Align space and asset decisions with institutional goals and operational priorities;

Communication Skills: Communicate clearly and effectively with campus departments, leadership, vendors, and external agencies to share information, gather input, and support decision-making. Translate complex space, data, and facilities information into accessible updates, reports, and recommendations for a variety of audiences;

Resource Management: Support responsible fiscal management of space planning and asset-related initiatives by coordinating budgets, evaluating vendor proposals, supporting procurement processes, and monitoring expenditures. Ensure decisions reflect cost-effectiveness, compliance, and alignment with operational priorities;

Systems Management: Maintain accurate and reliable facilities and asset data by working within institutional systems and reinforcing consistent processes. Identify ways to improve data quality and usability so information can better support reporting and day-to-day decision-making;

This is a full-time, overtime eligible, administrative staff position. The typical work hours for this position are Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; however, work hours may vary due to work demands and some evening and weekend work may be required.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. Manual dexterity and coordination are required to operate equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.

Work environment includes office and other settings as appropriate. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises. Some travel may be required.

MEDICAL FLEX SPENDING ACCOUNT (FSA) & DEPENDENT CARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (DCAP)

The FSA and DCAP plans are optional plans offered by the College and the State of Washington. They are calendar year, pre-tax, spending programs you can use to set aside money for eligible expenses. Both plans are offered as payroll deductions and are administered by Navia Benefit Solutions.

The FSA allows you to use pre-tax money to pay for certain out-of-pocket medical expenses. An FSA can be used to cover qualifying expenses such as: chiropractic care, over-the-counter medicine, first-aid supplies etc. For a full list of qualifying expenses visit: Medical FSA eligible expenses (naviabenefits.com).

For 2026, FSA annual contributions can be between $120 minimum and $3,300 maximum. As a "use it or lose it" IRC governed plan, medical expense reimbursements can be requested for employee, spouse, or IRS eligible dependents. The Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP) allows you to save on child or elder care expenses (e.g. babysitting, daycare, in-home care for an older dependent incapable of self-care).

Basic Coverage*

$35,000 Basic Term Life & $5,000 Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D).

  • Basic Coverage is employer provided at no cost to the employee. Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance are administered by MetLife.

Supplemental Life and AD&D Coverage

Supplemental term life insurance coverage and/or supplemental AD&D insurance is available for employee and family at an additional cost to the employee.

Employer-Paid Plan*

Provides 60% of the first $400 pre-disability monthly earnings, reduced by any deductible income.

The minimum benefit is $100 per month, maximum benefit is $540 per month. Benefits begin after 90 days of disability or the period of accumulated paid leave, whichever is longer.

  • Employer-Paid Coverage is employer provided at no cost to the employee.

RETIREMENT OPTIONS

Eligible employees participate in a Washington state-sponsored retirement plan through one of two administrators: the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) or the Teachers Insurance & Annuity Association (TIAA). DRS administers the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) and the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) plans. TIAA administers the State Board Retirement Plan (SBRP).

MOVING EXPENSE REIMBURSMENT

Employees having to move to accept a position with the College may qualify for moving expense reimbursement when certain conditions are met.

REDUCED TUITION WAIVER PROGRAM

Employees can take most credit and non-credit classes at a reduced cost when space is available and certain conditions are met.

Credit classes

Permanent classified, faculty, adjunct faculty and administrative employees of CBC may take almost any credit class on a space-available basis if requirements and prerequisites have been met. The basic cost is $5.00, plus any fees associated with that class. Hourly and probationary employees are not eligible for this reduced tuition.

VACATION, SICK LEAVE, & HOLIDAYS

Vacation & Sick Leave

Classified staff, and administrative staff accrue vacation and sick leave at rates determined by their employer group. Employees represented by a bargaining unit should refer to their negotiated agreement for accrual rates.
