Assistant Dietary Manager Job Summary:
The Assistant Dietary Manager supports the Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Dietary Services Department. This position assists in ensuring that quality food service and nutritional care are provided in compliance with federal, state, and local standards, as well as facility policies and procedures. The Assistant Dietary Manager plays a key role in the day-to-day management of the department and assists the CDM in implementing dietary guidelines and operational practices.
Assistant Dietary Manager Major Duties and Critical Tasks:
- Assist the CDM in planning, organizing, and implementing Dietary Services programs.
- Review and update department policies and procedures with the CDM.
- Support the CDM in interpreting policies to staff, residents, and visitors.
- Help manage the department budget and maintain cost control.
- Assist with recruitment, training, and performance evaluations of staff.
- Schedule and assign work hours to maintain quality patient care.
- Develop and participate in staff training and orientation programs.
- Lead or assist in monthly in-service training and departmental meetings.
- Educate other departments on dietary services.
- Stay current on healthcare and dietary service trends.
Assistant Dietary Manager Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Food Service Management, or a related field preferred.
- 1+ years of experience in food service management, preferably in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
- Experience supporting a Dietary Services Department or working alongside a CDM is preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
