Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, College of Arts & Sciences

Xavier University’s College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for the college’s next Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs.  This position plays a critical role in promoting student success, supporting academic excellence, and ensuring the consistent application of academic policies across the university.  Reporting to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, the Assistant Dean partners with faculty, academic departments, and the university’s Office of Advising and Learning Support to foster an environment in which students can thrive academically while maintaining the integrity of the university’s academic standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Work closely with the Dean and the two Associate Deans to ensure that the College delivers excellent academic, professional and personalized service to students and faculty.
  • Review and adjudicate cases involving academic probation, suspension, reinstatement, and academic appeals in accordance with university policies while exercising sound professional judgment.
  • Serve as a resource for students regarding academic policies, procedures, and graduation requirements.
  • Collaborate with faculty, department chairs, the Registrar, the Office of Advising and Learning Support, Strategic Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, and other campus partners to resolve student academic issues, monitor student academic progress, and coordinate appropriate interventions for students experiencing academic difficulty.
  • Coordinate and participate in committees related to academic standards, retention, student success, and curriculum implementation.
  • Convene the College’s Student Advisory Board, recruit members, set agendas, and advise on initiatives.
  • Support the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in implementing strategic academic initiatives.
  • Supervise the College’s Pre-Professional Health Advisor and Pre-Law Advisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Master's Degree in Higher Education or related field from an accredited institution required.  A Bachelor’s Degree with 8 – 10 years of relevant experience is acceptable.
  • Experience in higher education administration, academic advising, student success, or a related field.
  • Thorough understanding of academic policies, student records, and higher education practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment while handling sensitive and confidential student matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A collaborative leadership style and the ability to build productive relationships across the university.
  • Commitment to student development, academic excellence, and institutional mission.
