Overview:

The Assistant Controller of Gaming and Non-Gaming will assist the Controller in identifying, accumulating, analyzing, preparing, interpreting and communicating financial information within the Casino realm used by management to control within the Golden Nugget.  Prepare reports for non-management groups such as auditors, regulatory agencies and tax authorities.  The Assistant Controller directly supervises the Casino Accounting Manager (Gaming and Non-Gaming areas). The Assistant Controller is responsible to maintain Financial Accounting information. This position must also exhibit a high level of professional and personalized guest service that embodies the Company’s brand standard and core values (K.E.E.P. – Kindness, Engagement, Empathy and Positivity). 

Responsibilities:
  • Indirectly supervises Casino Accounting in the performance of daily audit work and compilation of numbers for the Daily Operating Report. Review the Daily Operating Report.
  • Responds to questions and demands of the Gaming Control Board and regulatory agencies.
  • Responds to some questions and demands of the Internal Revenue Service.
  • Responds to some questions and findings of Internal/External Auditors.
  • Work on special projects as deemed necessary by the Controller and Director of Finance
  • Manage the month-end closing of the accounting records.
  • Review supporting documentation for balance sheet accounts.
  • Manage journal entries, invoices etc. and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing.
  • Evaluates existing daily audit and accounting/auditing procedures and proactively seeks opportunities to improve both efficiency and quality of the accounting/audit function.
  • Establish and execute cash handling standards including establishing employee banking standards.
  • Ensure audit anomalies, revenue and cash variances are properly investigated and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Hotel, Retail and Food and Beverage Management in development and revision of internal controls and audit procedures.

  • Computer literate in Microsoft Windows and Excel applications.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with guests, employees, and members of management specific to position duties and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of accounting/auditing functions and knowledge of Gaming Control Boards Minimum Internal Control Standards.
  • Knowledge of Hard/Soft Count procedures and accounting for table games revenues.
  • Knowledge of cage transactions and procedures.
  • Knowledge of casino department’s revenue transactions and procedures.
  • Bachelor’s or related degree preferred.
  • 5 years experience.
  • Minimum age requirement is 21.
  • Must possess basic mathematical skills to include ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide specific to position responsibilities.
