Summary
Sumner High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Coach for our high school volleyball program. This seasonal position will support the head coach in developing student-athletes' skills, promoting teamwork, and fostering a positive and competitive environment. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for volleyball, a strong understanding of the game, and the ability to motivate and inspire high school athletes.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in planning and conducting daily practices, drills, and workouts to enhance team performance.
- Help develop game strategies and prepare the team for competition.
- Provide individual instruction and feedback to athletes to improve their skills and understanding of the game.
- Support the head coach in organizing and managing team activities, including games, tournaments, and team meetings.
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, and personal growth.
- Monitor student-athlete academic progress and encourage a balance between athletics and academics.
- Assist in the recruitment and evaluation of potential players for the volleyball program.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team updates and expectations.
- Attend all practices, games, and team events as scheduled, including pre-season and post-season activities.
- Adhere to all school and district policies and regulations related to athletics.
Requirements
- Previous experience playing or coaching volleyball at the high school level or higher.
- Strong knowledge of volleyball rules, techniques, and strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes to achieve their best.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the head coach, athletes, and parents.
- First Aid and CPR certification is preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass a background check as required by school district policies.
- Availability to commit to the full season, including practices, games, and events.
