Position Title Assistant Coach/Men's Basketball Division Vice President Student Affairs(DIV) Department Athletics & Recreation Job Description
The Assistant Coach/Men's Basketball assists the Head Coach with the overall operation of the College's intercollegiate men's basketball team for the fall and spring seasons.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists with tryouts for team formation after October 1.
- Assists with distribution and collection of all basketball equipment and uniforms.
- Assists with conducting a sufficient number of practice sessions each week, with each session lasting approximately one and one-half hours.
- Ensures safety procedures are followed while coaching.
- Serves as liaison between the Director/Athletics and opposing teams.
- Ensures appropriate conduct is observed by all team members and personnel at both "home" and "away" games and at all practice sessions.
- Assists with organization and administration of the WPCC and Regional men's basketball tournaments, when those tournaments are hosted by the college.
- Assists with reporting game scores and summary to the Athletic office following each game.
- Assists with keeping accurate statistics and upload into NJCAA website.
- Assists with recruitment of team members from the college's general student population.
- Assists with recruitment of team members from area high schools, in accordance with the college's recruitment policy.
- Performs other assistant coaching duties as assigned.

- Proven ability to work independently, as well as possess excellent decision-making and judgment skills.
- A strong working knowledge of the rules for the game of basketball, as well as the rules of our governing bodies (Region 20 and the NJCAA).
- Knowledge of how to run structured practices, game plans, and make in-game corrections as needed.
Required Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING
- Post-secondary degree in a related field desired; recreation/physical education major preferred.
- Previous basketball coaching and/or teaching experience desired.
- Must possess or obtain first-aid/CPR certification.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to perform the essential responsibilities/functions of this position.
