Role: The Assistant Coach is responsible for providing Christian leadership principles to a winning basketball programwithin the framework of the mission of the university and the intercollegiate athletic department. In addition, theAssistant Coach is to help establish an environment in which student-athletics develop as well as mature spiritually,academically, socially and athletically with the purpose of each performer and team reaching their potential. Allactivities of this position are to make a contribution to the fulfillment of the mission of the university and theintercollegiate athletic department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplish each of the below dutiessatisfactorily:
Responsibility A: To assist the basketball program within the framework of the mission of the university and theintercollegiate athletic department.
- Read and follow all provisions as outlined by the Policies and Procedures Manual of the University and theIntercollegiate Athletic Department
- Respond to all administrative correspondence in the requested time frame and attend allstaff meetings
- Know the rules and regulations of the NCAA and PacWest to ensure compliance with departmental,University, conference, and national policies
- Within the framework of NCAA policies, recruit prospective student-athletes who are of the level necessaryto be successful academically and athletically
Responsibility B: To establish an environment in which student-athletes develop as well as grow spiritually,academically, socially and athletically.
- Maintain the development and welfare of the student-athlete as the number one priority of the program
- Ensure academic success, focusing on classroom achievement and graduation requirements
- Provide leadership that promotes positive Christian attitudes and good sportsmanship with allstudentathletes
- Work with student-athletesin a fair, understanding, tolerant, sympathetic, and patient manner
- To student-athletes, provide instruction and spiritual guidance that will lead to positive values, acceptablebehavior, and self-discipline consistent with the philosophy of athletics; motivate the team for maximumperformance by utilizing motivational philosophies that meet the needs ofstudents and that are consistentwith Athletic Program philosophy
Responsibility C: To develop, establish, and maintain a winning basketball program within the framework of themission of the University and the Intercollegiate Athletic Department.
- Display good sportsmanship in relationships with students, staff, officials, and opponents as consistent withNCAA policies regarding the principle of sportsmanship and ethical conduct
- Maintain up-to-date information ofsport regulations, rule changes, and NCAA policies
- Develop in each student-athlete a respect for University property and its care
- Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff personnel and in the development of roles and responsibilities
- Effectively manage time in a demanding work environment
- Adhere to all institutional, PacWest, and NCAA bylaws and regulations
- Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes
- Establish and ensure a safe environment forstudent-athletes
- Understand and agree to abide by the mission of the Athletic Department
Responsibility D: Perform all other duties and/or responsibilities as needed and/or as assigned by the AthleticDirector and/or University administration.
- Supervise home events as assigned by the Athletic Director
- Fundraise
Specific responsibilities include:
- Educate prospective student-athletes and enrolled student-athletes about NCAA Division II, PacWest,and institutional rules
- Submit and log off-campusrecruiting contacts and evaluations
- Self-report NCAA Division II rules violations to the Compliance Office
Education and/or Experience:Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university; two-five years of related experience and/ortraining; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
