Summary of Position

Assists in coaching, recruiting, counseling, conditioning, and evaluating for the team during transition of vacant coaching positions; assists with administrative tasks related to the program.

Position Information

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Supervises and manages personnel; interviews applicants and makes hiring recommendations; trains and orients new employees; monitors and evaluates job performance; monitors and approves employee leave requests; ensures compliance with university policies and procedures; receives employee complaints and attempts to resolve the issue; assigns and issues lower level corrective action in accordance with university policies and procedures; receives and adjusts and/or responds to grievances; investigates and effectively recommends more severe discipline action as warranted.

Assumes responsibility for the oversight of the administrative operations of the program; coordinates team travel, game day operations, practice security, field set-up, and video exchange; serves as liaison to various campus departments; serves as liaison to pro scouts; assists in youth camp management; evaluates and implements equipment and facility needs.

Implements coaching and teaching methods to develop student-athlete's athletic skills and analyzes performance of student-athletes during times of transition in coaching staff; assists in the recruiting process including arrangement of meals and entertainment, arrangement of transportation, arrangement and conducting of tours, preparation and review of recruiting documentation.

Assists with team marketing and promotional activities, attends promotional events, community activities, and fundraisers; prepares promotional materials for distribution; prepares and delivers speeches and presentations at local community groups, fundraisers, athlete events, etc.; coordinates summer jobs program and community outreach.

Assumes responsibility for the oversight of the administrative operations of the program; coordinates team travel, game day operations, practice security, and court set-up; ; serves as liaison to campus departments as required; assists in youth camp management; evaluates and implements equipment and facility needs.

Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.

Other Functions and Responsibilities: Abides by rules and regulations of NCAA, conference, and university.

Videotapes practices, games, and strength training sessions as directed.

Manages equipment inventory and related duties as directed.

Develops and manages strength training program as directed.

Drives passenger vans as required.

Assists with training new hires.

Performs other duties as assigned and/or required that are within the level of responsibility for this classification at the discretion of the supervisor.

Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.

Work Schedule: Travel and non-traditional hours.

Primary Location: Youngstown

Supervision Exercised: May exercise supervision over student employees.

Qualifications and Competencies

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: CPR/AED/First Aid certifications; Annual proficiency in NCAA Certification to Recruit; valid driver's license.

Sponsorship and/or Work Authorization Status: This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: NCAA rules and regulations; university policies and procedures; office practices and procedures; department/division goals and objectives; workplace safety practices and procedures*; English grammar and spelling; records management.

Skill in: organization; written and verbal communication; use of office equipment; typing, data entry; computer operation; use of computer software and other programs applicable to the assigned department/division*.

Ability to: exhibit strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; determine material and equipment needs; use proper research methods to gather data; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; maintain records according to established procedures; effectively interact with personnel and public to answer routine questions; train or instruct others; move quickly and effectively from one tasks to another; work independently and in a team environment; develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications: At least a bachelors degree; at least one year of coaching experience and/or experience playing basketball; a valid drivers license; and must be able to work flexible hours and travel extensively.

Preferred Qualifications: Collegiate basketball coaching experience. Collegiate playing experience in Division I women's basketball. Experience coordinating operations for a collegiate sports team.

Physical Requirements: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this position will perform light work.

Light: work involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, requiring: (1) walking or standing to a significant degree; (2) sitting most of the time while pushing or pulling arm or leg controls; or (3) working at a production rate pace while constantly pushing or pulling materials even though the weight or the materials is negligible. (The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.)
