Responsibilities:

The Nursing Resource Center (NRC) Coordinator is a 12-month faculty member that will plan, operate, coordinate, and oversee the nursing skills lab, computer lab, and simulation lab related to all Nursing Programs. Supervision to include scheduling activities, maintaining supplies and equipment, managing annual budget, purchasing instructional materials, updating resources, teaching, and promoting a clean, organized creative learning environment. The coordinator will teach 9-12 contact hours each semester or as designated by the Dean or Associate Dean.

 

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

General
    • Management of NRC annual budget including providing recommendations for allocation of existing funds, grant writing, and solicitation of donations
    • Work with faculty and nursing administration to ensure expenditures effectively meet program needs
    • Communicates regularly with faculty about NRC activities
    • Orient new faculty and students to the policies and procedures of the NRC
    • Maintain and update NRC portion of the student and faculty handbook
    • Supervision of student workers assigned to the NRC
    • Oversees security measures for NRC rooms, labs, and storage areas
    • Serves on appropriate School of Nursing/University committees
    • Facilitate tours and outreach opportunities to promote growth and support of the School of Nursing
    • Collaborates with cross-campus departments and community agencies in health-related endeavors
    • Carries out other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean or other administrators.
Assessment/Skills Lab:
  • Schedule and coordinate learning activities within the lab for undergraduate and graduate nursing students
  • Assess and organize physical resource needs by collaborating with faculty
  • Anticipate equipment/supply needs and develop strategies for meeting needs
  • Maintain inventory list of itemized equipment and supplies
  • Arrange for set-up and clean-up of materials for each lab session
  • Develop and maintain inventory of laboratory equipment, supplies, learning resources, and reference materials
  • Item selection and ordering student skills bags to effectively meet student learning needs for skill practice and validations
  • Maintain current and safe equipment by replacing items with up-to-date materials, sending out equipment for repair, or surplus outdated and/or non-repairable equipment/materials.
  • Low-fidelity manikin maintenance, care, cleaning, and replacement of parts or accoutrements
  • Maintain laboratory safety procedures in accordance with OSHA standards and regulations
  • Schedule, coordinate, and assist with student validations around lab and clinical activities
  • Maintain pleasant, creative teaching-learning environment through use of bulletin boards and other learning aids
  • Maintain and promote a clean, safe and organized learning environment
  • Provides orientation to instructors regarding the policies, procedures, and use of labs.

Simulation Lab:
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and standards in all aspects of simulation according to the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) and other industry experts
  • Schedule and coordinate simulation exercises within the lab
  • Consult, advise, instruct, and assist faculty in development and implementation of patient simulation scenarios.
  • Assist course faculty with manikin operation, scenario pre-briefing, and exercise debriefing.
  • Work with faculty to create and update realistic, appropriate, critical thinking scenarios of varying levels of complexity.
  • Facilitation of integration of simulation into the nursing curriculum
  • Implementation and use of simulation evaluation instrument/tool after each simulation exercise.
  • High fidelity manikin maintenance, care, cleaning and replacement of parts or accoutrements.
  • Assist IT specialist with operation, maintenance and updating of the audiovisual resources when needed.
  • Continued education and training in use and operation of new technologies including simulation software, programming, and manikin operation
  • Communicate regularly with faculty about simulation activities

Computer Lab
  • Oversees use of computer lab
  • Scheduling of computer lab for class use, orientations, tutoring or testing
  • Coordinates selection of instructional technology with full-time faculty
  • Maintenance of printer ink cartridges and paper supply replacement
  • Promotion of paper recycling
