The Department

The Department of Health and Sport Science is a growing, successful department at the University of Dayton in Dayton, OH. With over 700 students across 4 undergraduate majors and one graduate dietetics program, we collectively seek to train and inspire future leaders in health, wellness, and sport. Over 400 students are Health Science majors who primarily pursue graduate programs such as medicine, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing. We are looking for an engaged, dedicated, and innovative faculty member to join our student-centered team.

The Position

The BSN Program at the University of Dayton Department of Health and Sport Science is seeking a candidate who is outcomes-focused and is interested in advancing nursing students in education, the nursing profession, and Marianist values. The Assistant Clinical Professor is a nine-month, non-tenure track faculty position beginning August 16, 2026. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing teaching and evaluating courses in the University of Daytons BSN Pathway completion program, as well as assisting as the program transitions into a stand-alone pre-licensure program. The candidate will work collaboratively with the Nursing Program Director, as well as with interdisciplinary faculty in the Department of Health and Sport Science and the School of Education and Health Sciences. Additionally, the successful candidate who serves for six years or more is eligible to be considered for non-tenure track promotion in accordance with the universitys recently implemented professional faculty promotion policy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree in nursing from an accredited institution
  • Five years of experience as a practicing RN, current valid, unencumbered Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license, or eligibility for obtaining an Ohio RN license
  • Experience teaching in an educational setting
  • Articulated ability to support the School and University of Daytons commitment to inclusive excellence
  • Effective written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or related field
  • DNP, EdD, or Ph.D.
  • Successful experience in one or more of the following:
  • One or more years teaching as an instructor of record at a post-secondary institution
  • Nursing accreditation and professional nursing standards of practice
  • Online course development, delivery, and/or assessment
  • Working collaboratively and developing positive working relationships with a large variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Mentoring, working with, and/or teaching socially and culturally diverse communities
  • Working independently, i.e., course development, assessment, academic advising
  • Certified Nurse Educator
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Effective classroom management skills
