Overview With more than 200 attorneys and professional staff, the Seattle City Attorney's Office is one of the largest law offices in Seattle and the third-largest public law office in Washington state. The Criminal Division's Pre‑Filing Diversion (PFD) Unit seeks a prosecutor to screen and review incoming reports for diversion eligibility, engage with community partners on day‑to‑day diversion programming needs, and collaborate with other units within the Criminal Division on cases that qualify for SCAO's PFD programs.Responsibilities Review Seattle Police Department reports to determine PFD program eligibility.File criminal cases if not eligible for diversion.Assist in organizing trainings for the broader division on PFD‑related issues.Collaborate with external partners to expand and develop diversion options at SCAO.Answer community partner questions related to programming, case referrals, and the criminal legal system.Maintain and help draft reports and update internal documents regarding criteria, invitation letters, correspondence with officers and community partners, etc.Qualifications Membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association or ability to obtain membership within 30 days of employment.One year of general prosecution experience in the Criminal Division of a city or comparable jurisdiction.Track record of attendance at Race and Social Justice Initiative‑type trainings or engagement at related events.Experience working in specialty courts or alternatives to traditional prosecution is a plus.Knowledge and/or formal training about diversion practices.Analytical skills for legal and evidentiary issues.Experience working with community partners in an official capacity.Extensive Race and Social Justice training and a desire to continue learning.Data management capabilities.Legal writing proficiency.Commitment to prosecutorial diversion programs and alternatives to traditional prosecution.Flexibility to handle nuanced projects and unexpected changes.Experience filing criminal cases.Strong communication skills with people from diverse backgrounds.Benefits The City of Seattle offers a comprehensive benefits package, including vacation, 12 official holidays, 2 floating holidays, sick leave, paid parental leave, and medical, dental, vision, life, and long‑term disability insurance.
