Schedule: Days (No Weekends)

Compensation: $150,000 – $155,000 + 17.5% Bonus

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) – Behavioral Health to join a leading acute care healthcare system. This executive-level nursing leadership role is ideal for candidates with strong inpatient behavioral health leadership experience who are ready to drive patient-centered care, operational excellence, and strategic growth.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with executive leadership, influence organizational strategy, and advance into a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) pathway.


Job Summary

The Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) supports the Chief Nursing Officer in overseeing nursing operations, strategic planning, and quality improvement initiatives. You will lead multiple patient care units, enhance patient outcomes, and promote a culture of clinical excellence, safety, and innovation.


Key Responsibilities

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure nursing practices align with regulatory standards and evidence-based care
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes
  • Investigate patient complaints and implement corrective actions
  • Conduct leadership rounding with patients, staff, and physicians

Patient Experience and Service Excellence

  • Promote a patient-first culture and service recovery initiatives
  • Drive strategies to improve patient satisfaction and engagement
  • Maintain high standards of compassionate and ethical care

Leadership and Team Development

  • Mentor and develop nursing leaders and staff
  • Support recruitment, retention, and staff engagement initiatives
  • Collaborate with educators to ensure ongoing clinical training
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across departments

Financial and Operational Management

  • Assist in managing nursing budgets and staffing models
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality care
  • Support operational efficiency and resource optimization

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) – Required
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) – Required
  • 5+ years of supervisory nursing leadership experience – Required
  • 5+ years of inpatient Behavioral Health leadership experience – Required
  • Must currently hold or have held a Unit Director level or above role
  • Outpatient Behavioral Health experience alone will not be considered

Licensure and Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (or compact license)
