Department InformationThe Revenue & Regulatory Law (R&R) section of the Colorado Department of Law is seeking a dynamic and committed Assistant Attorney General to join the Marijuana, Liquor and Bankruptcy (MLB) Unit. In this role, you will address a wide variety of interesting and complex legal issues of significant importance to the State of Colorado. The MLB Unit represents the Colorado Department of Revenue's Marijuana Enforcement Division, Natural Medicine Division, Liquor & Tobacco Enforcement Division, and Firearms Dealer Division in licensing and disciplinary litigation.ResponsibilitiesPrimary responsibility for handling administrative licensing actions from inception through administrative hearing, administrative appeal, and judicial review for the Marijuana, Liquor & Tobacco Enforcement, Natural Medicine and Firearm Dealer Divisions.Represent the divisions in state and federal courts as needed.Manage cases ranging from simple to complex, including enforcement actions related to underage sales, security and public health violations, mandatory testing requirements, tax disqualification, and corporate schemes.Independently handle litigation, negotiation, hearings, and administrative appeals of cases on behalf of clients represented by the Unit.Litigate matters requiring immediate action such as license suspensions.Seek injunction relief in Colorado District Courts to enforce licensure requirements against unlicensed persons.Provide training to Division of Labor attorneys, client representatives and staff.Take primary responsibility for own cases while increasing responsibilities over time.QualificationsAdmitted to the Colorado Bar or eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar and in good standing at the time of application.Minimum of three years of experience practicing law, with a strong litigation background.Demonstrated ability to handle negotiations, litigation and trials independently and effectively.Proficient client communication and excellent writing skills.Ability to manage a significant caseload and work closely with paralegals.Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.Enjoyment in litigating cases and advising clients in a general counsel role.SalaryAssistant Attorney General I (AAG I): $88,197 – $96,554 annually. Assistant Attorney General II (AAG II): $102,099 – $136,468 annually.
