Job Duties

The Virginia Office of the Attorney General is seeking an energy/utilities attorney to join its Insurance and Utilities Regulatory Section in Richmond. The successful candidate will represent the Office's Division of Consumer Counsel in state regulatory proceedings before the Virginia State Corporation Commission and Supreme Court of Virginia, and in federal administrative proceedings at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The individual will serve as a litigation attorney on matters involving primarily electric and natural gas utilities. The position may include some regulatory work with telecommunications and insurance companies. Duties also include advice and assistance on other matters related to the regulation of these industries, including legislative issues before the Virginia General Assembly.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in regulatory litigation involving electric and/or natural gas utilities, with an academic background in accounting, economics, finance, and/or engineering.

The position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and analytical ability, the ability to interact effectively with state government officials, and the ability to work both independently and as a team member.

Admission to the Virginia State Bar is required.
