Assistant Attorney General (Economic Justice Section)Salary Range: $9,063 - $17,597 per monthLocation: Salem or Portland office, with hybrid remote schedule. Occasional travel to Portland required for office meetings.Job DescriptionThe Civil Enforcement Division of the Oregon Department of Justice seeks a motivated, enthusiastic, experienced attorney with a strong interest or background in antitrust and false claims to join our Economic Justice Section. This section brings legal actions on behalf of the Attorney General to protect consumers and working families and ensure healthy competition in the marketplace, so that Oregonians are offered the best goods and services at the best price. The work often involves cutting edge issues of law and policy across an array of traditional and emerging industries.The attorney in this position will focus on antitrust and false claims enforcement. Working alone or in teams, this attorney will apply their skills and experience to identify, investigate and prosecute complex matters related to antitrust or false claims enforcement actions. Duties will include:Issuing investigative demandsTaking sworn witness interviewsWorking with consulting experts and analysts to evaluate legal and strategic issuesSeeking injunctive relief, civil penalties, or consumer restitution through a negotiated settlement or, if necessary, through litigationParticipating in or leading multistate efforts to enforce antitrust law and collaborating with federal antitrust enforcersAssisting on other Section matters as neededRequired QualificationsBe admitted to the Oregon bar or be clearly eligible to waive into the Oregon Bar and be in good standing at the time of applicationMinimum of five (5) years' litigation or enforcement experience, including complex document discovery; preference for more than ten (10) yearsExperience taking or defending depositions in state or federal court actions or conducting investigative interviewsWillingness and ability to litigate complex civil casesWillingness and ability to travel periodicallyAbility to clear all actual or potential ethical conflicts to represent the stateStrong work ethic and commitment to public serviceDesired ExperienceStrong background in state or federal antitrust lawsExperience with false claims investigations or prosecutionsExperience leading investigations and working with opposing counselSuperior writing and oral advocacy skills, excellent analytical skills, sound judgment, and ability to think creatively about complex legal issuesExperience negotiating settlements and resolving disputesInterest in technology and capable of learning new technologies and utilizing technical tools to advance investigationsPractical and creative problem‑solving abilitiesCapacity to independently manage a full workloadEffective and responsive communicationGoal‑oriented and self‑starter comfortable working both independently and collaborativelyDemonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusionEqual Opportunity and Diversity StatementCandidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
