    Description

    This position is eligible for telework. The attorney is assigned to the PCR Section as Assistant Attorney General and, under limited supervision, performs professional legal work for the State, its subdivisions, and officials.ResponsibilitiesReview applications, calendar returns, and prepare pleadings and responses to applications, motions, or other pleadings.Represent the State at court hearings in assigned circuits and elsewhere as required.Prepare all proposed orders requested by the presiding judge.Represent the State on all post‑conviction relief appeals handled in the circuit court when appealed to the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals; file and serve appeals on behalf of the State for cases approved by the Deputy Attorney General or Chief Deputy Attorney General.Prepare necessary petitions, returns, or briefs for filing with the appropriate appellate court and appear at oral arguments when scheduled.Prepare a roster of cases to be heard, issue it to the appropriate parties, and ensure witness letters, subpoenas, and transportation arrangements are completed.Collect and review incoming mail, give processing instructions, and maintain due‑date tracking on the attorney's calendar; verify review by placing initials on all mail and documents.Perform related duties as directed by the division director or section supervisor, including handling cases outside the primary assignment.Advise victim advocates promptly on the development and status of assigned cases.Maintain accurate records in LawBase and Worldox and keep all documents updated.Maintain an accurate calendar of all due dates.Respond to telephone calls by the end of each day and provide timely written advice to solicitors, attorneys, and law‑enforcement entities regarding post‑conviction relief matters.Maintain “shake‑proof” files and promptly close all files.Qualifications and RequirementsJ.D. degree.Member in good standing with the South Carolina Bar; must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.Proficient legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word; above‑average understanding of computers, software, and technology beyond MS Office.Well organized with demonstrated ability to work independently.Ability to transport files to and from court.Some overnight travel required.Drug screening, credit check, delinquent tax check, SLED background check, and grievance check required.BenefitsPublic Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility.Paid parental leave.Health, dental, vision, long‑term disability, and life insurance for employees, spouses, and children.Fifteen days of annual vacation per year.Fifteen days of sick leave per year.Thirteen paid holidays.State Retirement Plan and Deferred Compensation Programs.THIS OFFICE IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EMPLOYER.#J-18808-Ljbffr
