SUMMARY: This position assesses risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion of athletes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily operations for the athletic training room and the following:
  • Sport team responsibilities/assignments as specified by Head Athletic Trainer communication with coaches and student athletes of assigned teams.
  • Coordinates with physicians/medical personnel on care of student-athletes.
  • Reports, documents, and maintains athlete's injuries in their medical records.
  • Takes inventory and restocks medical supplies.
  • Ensures safety of patients and staff through enforcement of safety procedures.
  • Maintaining the athletic training room as a medical facility.
  • Additional administrative duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Carry out medical care for athletes/ patients per operating standards and communicating with the sports medicine staff on status of patient/athlete to safely return them to full athletic participation.
  • implements and coordinates injury prevention programs per patient needs.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Pay is commensurate with experience

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in athletic training or related field.
  • EXPERIENCE: Must be NATA BOC certified prior to being hired and have a current BLS or Professional Rescuer CPR/AED certification.
  • PREFERENCE:
  • Additional related education and training.
  • Experience with administrative and organizational duties.
  • Experience with advanced manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine.
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in athletic training or related field.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have or be eligible to obtain New Mexico Athletic Trainer licensure within 30 days of employment.
  • Current BLS or Professional Rescuer First CPR Certification Requires working weekends, nights, and observed school holidays.
  • Requires travel to sporting events.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Advocate for proper health care of student athletes.
  • Experience with rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
  • Demonstrated success in patient confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills required for working with a diverse group of patients, clinical staff, administrators, athletic staff, and visitors.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion handling sensitive matters involving patients.
  • Computer literacy, including working knowledge of word processing programs.
  • Ability to work with and in a diverse environment.
  • Comfort working in a complex, dynamic, and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with multiple team assignments.
  • Proven ability to meet multiple demands in a high-volume, fast-paced ATR environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
