Position Summary
The Assistant Athletic Director supports the Athletic Director in the planning, organization, administration, and supervision of the Lexington Senior High School athletic program. This position helps ensure that all athletic programs operate in a manner that promotes academic excellence, student-athlete development, competitive success, sportsmanship, and compliance with North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), district, and school policies. The Assistant Athletic Director serves as a visible leader at athletic events and works collaboratively with coaches, students, families, and community stakeholders to provide a positive and safe athletic experience. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year and comes with a stipend.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Athletic Program Administration
- Assist the Athletic Director with the daily operations of the athletic department.
- Support the implementation and enforcement of district, conference, and NCHSAA rules, regulations, and policies.
- Assist with scheduling athletic contests, practices, and facility usage.
- Coordinate and monitor athletic department operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Event Management and Supervision
- Serve as the administrative supervisor for assigned home and away athletic events.
- Coordinate game-day operations, including ticketing, security, event personnel, officials, concessions, and facility readiness.
- Ensure athletic facilities are properly prepared, maintained, and secured before, during, and after events.
- Supervise crowd management and promote a safe, positive, and sportsmanlike environment for participants and spectators.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and resolve issues related to athletic events and facilities.
Student-Athlete Support
- Promote academic achievement, leadership, character development, and sportsmanship among student-athletes.
- Assist in monitoring student-athlete eligibility and compliance with academic and athletic requirements.
- Foster an inclusive athletic culture that encourages participation and positive experiences for all students.
- Coordinate student-athlete recognition programs, awards ceremonies, and special athletic events.
Community Relations and Communication
- Serve as a positive ambassador for Lexington Senior High School athletics.
- Assist with athletic department communications, including social media, website updates, promotional materials, and public announcements.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, booster organizations, community partners, alumni, and media representatives.
- Support fundraising initiatives and community engagement activities that enhance the athletic program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of interscholastic athletic programs, rules, regulations, and eligibility requirements.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, events, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions and effectively solve problems in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in the use of technology, data management systems, and communication platforms.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, officials, and community stakeholders.
- Basic budgeting, accounting, and financial record-keeping skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the athletic schedule.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during athletic events.
- Ability to lift and carry athletic equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to travel to athletic contests and related activities.
