Description

The Department of Human Performance & Communicative Disorders invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure /tenure-track/tenure-eligible (decision of Dean and/or Provost) Assistant or Associate Professor with specialization in Audiology. The successful candidate will provide high-quality clinical supervision and instruction to undergraduate and graduate students, deliver audiological services to diverse client populations, engage in scholarly activity, and contribute service to the Department, College, and University. The rank and tenure-status of the position is negotiable based on qualifications.

Examples of Duties

Teaching and Clinical Supervision

• Provide clinical supervision and instruction to undergraduate and graduate students at all levels within the Speech-Language Pathology program, with emphasis in audiology.
• Deliver classroom instruction as assigned, consistent with departmental and programmatic needs.
• Evaluate and assess student clinical performance in accordance with ASHA standards, competencies, and accreditation requirements.
• Mentor students in clinical reasoning, ethical practice, and evidence-based audiology services.

Clinical Service

• Provide direct audiological assessment, diagnosis, and intervention services to pediatric and adult populations.
• Deliver services across all major areas of audiology, including hearing assessment, amplification, auditory processing, and related services.
• Maintain appropriate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with professional, ethical, and regulatory standards.

Scholarship

• Engage in scholarly activity appropriate to rank and appointment, including research, publication, presentations, or other forms of professional scholarship.
• Contribute to the advancement of knowledge in audiology and related areas of speech-language pathology.

Service

• Participate in service activities at the Department, College, and University levels.
• Contribute to program development, accreditation efforts, curriculum review, and clinical program enhancement.
• Engage in professional service to the discipline, including involvement in professional organizations as appropriate.

Typical Qualifications

• Earned EdD or Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology or related area from a regionally accredited institution.
• Three years of professional experience in a diverse setting.
• ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology required.
• Must hold or qualify for Alabama licensure in Speech-Language Pathology.
• Have demonstrated skills of teaching in blended or online learning environments.
• Have the ability to work collaboratively with university and public-school colleagues within a diverse environment.
