Position Summary

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) in conjunction with IU Health Medical Group (IUHMG) are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking, and team-oriented individual for the position of a Director of Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis. This position will focus on further developing transfusion medicine and apheresis, fostering improvement and innovation, and providing leadership, diagnostic, and consultative services for the entire Indiana University Health system, including Academic Health Center and Regional sites.

Indiana University Health is a national leader in healthcare, consistently highly ranked in the US News and World Report. The IUH Health system includes 16 hospitals and 2600 beds. The Division of Transfusion Medicine consists of blood bank laboratories, cellular therapy, and apheresis, and supports adult and pediatric Level I Trauma Centers and various medical and surgical services, including hematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplant programs. The laboratory issues approximately 60,000 blood products and performs 2,700 inpatient and outpatient apheresis procedures annually. The cellular therapy laboratory processes approximately 400 hematopoietic stem cell transplants and immune effector cells (CAR-T) per year. The division is composed of 5 faculty members and includes 3 advanced practice providers and 9 nurses.

Board certification in CP or APCP, as well as board certification in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, are required. Qualifications and level of experience will determine the academic rank. Individuals with interest in tenure or clinical track will be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction for transfusion medicine and apheresis services
  • Contribute to the tripartite mission of transfusion medicine and the department
  • Actively participate in educational activities, including ACGME-accredited and non-accredited trainees

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate or Terminal degree is required.
  • The applicant must be certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic/clinical pathology or clinical pathology and be board-certified in transfusion medicine.
  • Applicants must be qualified for licensure in the state of Indiana.
