Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of Mental Health and Substance Use Counseling Type: Tenure Track Position, Full-time, benefitted Position Number: 00106746 Deadline: Review of applications will begin April 6, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled.
Position Summary: The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Criminal Justice at Minot State University invites applications for a tenure-track in-person position in the Mental Health and Substance Use Counseling program, launching August 2026 pending HLC approval. This is a 9-month appointment. Core duties include teaching both traditional face-to-face and online synchronous graduate core courses in the Mental Health and Substance Use Counseling masters program. Additional teaching duties may include undergraduate level courses. Other responsibilities of core faculty within the department include academic advising, scholarly productivity, service, collaboration, accreditation-related activities, promotion of the program and the university, and other duties as assigned by the program coordinator and department chair.

Required Qualifications: • An earned doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision, Counseling Psychology, or a doctoral degree in a closely related field OR have a master's level degree in those fields with at least five years of experience as a licensed professional clinical counselor. • The applicant must have training, clinical experience, and/or teaching experience in clinical mental health counseling, including substance use counseling. • The successful candidate should be licensed/credentialed as a clinical mental health counselor in their respective state and obtain licensure as a mental health counselor in the state of ND within the first 6 months of employment. Preferred Qualifications: • A clearly defined counselor educator identity that aligns with mental health and addiction counseling. • Interest in internship and practicum coordination. • Preference will be given to applicants who are able to obtain clinical mental health counseling and addiction counselor licensure in ND within 6 months of appointment. • We seek candidates with a strong commitment to social justice, multiculturalism and inclusion, and advocacy for marginalized populations, aligning with the ACA multicultural and social justice counseling competencies. • Demonstrated engagement within counselor education and counseling professional organizations. • Demonstrated research engagement through publications, presentations, grants and contracts, and/or doctoral research mentorship.
